Default Heat Crossover?

When is it a good idea to block the heat crossover for the intake? What does this do? Good or bad?

Yes, I would. Its for Cold wheather starts. It sends heat from the exhaust to heat the intake fuel and air, to run better during cold mornings. A colder more dense air means more power, the more air in the more power out.

Default Heat Crossover

Since you live in Hilo, you won't need the heat. How cold does it get in Hilo, maybe 60°F on the coldest day of the year? Nice place, I wish I lived there.

My car picked up at the track by blocking the heat crossover and became more consistant......

I bought a valley pan that didn't have the heat crossover area punched out. I have seen people put pieces of metal on a regular valley pan but I would suggest the proper gasket..

I always thought blocking the heat crossover was barely worth while, but, if you live in a warm climate, why not?

Fargo, it's actually worth a lot. We do it on all out race cars and some of my street cars. It really doesn't hurt winter time driving at all if you let the engine warm up like you are supposed to. Every owners manual says warm it up before you drive, but I know who ever does it.

I let it warm up. About long enough to close the garage door!

All my intakes don't even have a crossover.

Hey thanks for all the replies. Hilo is nice but it rains a lot on this side of the island. 60* he-he when its like storming we may drop below 70* at night if we're lucky. I ordered the valley pan w/ the heat crossover blocked off.

Thanks
