Default No sound improvement with my new headers!!

Well, that wasent the purpose to fit the TTI´s but I must tell I have expeted a better and more "tuned up" level of sound after swapping my old iron exmanifolds and badly dented 2 1/4" original tubes into TTI 1 7/8 and 2,5" all the way to the rear muffler.
I already removed the flat resonators last year and run with a straight tube,, both to save money since old was rusted badly and to make a little improvement in sound!
No diff in sound after swap!!Maybe a little darker tone, but this can be located to the new higher comp caused by changing head gaskets to steel shims while putting those headers on!
Its not that I want a neighborkiller but I expect it to sound a little "beefier".
I run with new Accurate ltd original rear 2 1/4" mufflers and maybe they are a BIG restriction both in sound and by getting the potential out of the engine??
Any improvements to make on them?
Or is it of no value according to the output rate on engine running with those Accurate stuff?
Best R Olle

No mufflers, and you expected to hear a difference from changing the manifolds??

You won't get much difference just by putting on headers. Just a little louder in the cockpit. The exhaust sound comes from the mufflers mostly. And some from larger pipes.

So what about the Accurate original shaped mufflers,,are they a big restriction in the flow?
Can you make it simply and say,,"Loudness is force"?
Right new the car is in the same loud level as my Toyota 1,8 !!

You have a 383 in that car right? 1 7/8" primaries are too big, so they are just working as a big manifold right now, velocity is slowing down and those stock mufflers aren't helping anything either.

Sure??
Yes I have a 383 but its equipped with KB 162,,ported 906,, and is pretty well acting!
I really asked around before the purchase and non reflected over the primetubes!!
We did also agree that 2,5 tubes is better than 3" in my set up ,,but what the heck,,its in place and I promise I will not take them off!!
They where not that funny to add so I guess I will have to saw them off!
So my 2,5" tubes goes to my original Accurate mufflers!
Is there any improvemnet to be made on those or is it new flow thrue´s thats needed to get better breaf in the system?

i think you may be deaf if you believe the car is as quiet as your toyota
but regardless, new mufflers would definitely make a change in the way the car sounds and also reacts. if you put high flow mufflers on the car it will sound louder and will also make more power at the higher rpms. something you might not worry about on the street but others race with mufflers and what not.

i changed from manifolds to headers on a 360 dart with 2/4 inch pipes to the muffs and 2 inch to the tail pipes and the sound not notably crisper and much deeper/louder

Thanks,,
Since Ive put that topic I have done a complete tuneup to the car and it moves quite well now!
It was the first chock when starting it up and the expectations was high!
Im pretty much satisfied now,,,it sounds darker than before,,but I guess I have a lot of hidden potential hidden in the sound!
On the other hand a mufflerswap maybe will be to much to join the neighbors with,,as you mention,,its a 99% Cruizer!
Thanks and Best R Olle B

i just replaced cheepo heddman headers with tti on my 73 cuda'340. the sound was the same[loud,i have old flowmasters], but then i had an x-pipe installed , that quieted it down alot. those accurate ltd mufflers are real resto pieces, so i wouldn't expect to get much of a performance tone out of the car.ya?

My Speedstore guessed 10-20,,,I dont know!
Do any of you have an idea?

i think they might cost you about 10 hp. but i feel that's all relative as to how mild or wild your combo is. if you're screaming the motor to 6500 rpm they'll cost you more than if you're revving to 5500 rpm. you already spent good money on them and i'm sure they're fine for a street engine.

Seems to me as far as sound goes, the biggest difference in going from logs to headers was you could hear and feel it "smooth out".

I know they suck compared to Flowmasters and their ilk, but I've always been partial to a quieter low rumble like the old Thrush Turbos had.
