Default Edelbrock Carb settings on a 440

I did try a quick archive search and didn't see what I was looking for -

I have a Performer carb (750CFM) I added to a fairly mild 440 ('72 HP2 model) in my GTX - about all I've done to the engine so far is changed the cam the prior owner installed to something a li'l more manageable (274deg.). Still has stock intake and exhaust manifolds, but it will have headers some time this summer. 727 trans.

What I'm hoping to find out is if anyone has a reccommended starting point for the jetting/rods/springs? Or are the out of the box settings ok?

thanks in advance for any inputs y'all have!

Boozoo...

If it's the 1407 model with manual choke it should be somewhat in the ballpark. It comes with a somewhat richer setup than the electric choke model.

If you bought the carb new it should have come with a very detailed book that will help to fine tune the carb.

Good luck,

Carter/Edelbrock 750??????

Easy...

The left screw is the timer, set it to 15 seconds

The right screw is the self destruct, turn it to "ON"....and run like hell you've got 15 seconds until it goes where it belongs.....LOL

Seriously...you'll always have primary circuit problems with that 750...Edelbrock knows it and that's why they changed to the "New" Improved 800 Version...unfortunatly they didn't completely fix all the problems.

Did I say Holley??? where did that come from???...just kidding...hell I'm married to a Holley ...but she does run a Demon on her race truck....

Can you tell I starting to feel better?

Anyhow....the Eddy's do Idle fairly well but as far as performance carburetion goes there's allot more to be had.

Let's look at a Eddey carb and a Road Demon side by side:

Road Demon $339.00
****Electric choke
****Dual Feed Kit
****Billet float Bowls
****External adjustments
****A thing of maximus beautimus
http://store.summitracing.com/global...4282010vfe.jpg

Edelbrock....$259.95
****Electric choke
****single feed for a rubber hose...
****Flash Chromed cast
****2 idle mix screws
****Really cool looking??...if it were still 1969

http://store.summitracing.com/global...e/edl-1406.jpg

Can you see the extra $80.00 value in the Road Demon???

Still not convinced? ..browse around Ebay and see what you can get a 600-750 Eddy for...60-75...maybe $100 for a near new one.....now go search a Road Demon...if you can find one you'll be paying probably over $300 for it ....can you guess the reason???

...right...you get a gold star!!!

Almost forgot....
"More to be Had"

This weekend Nitro Boy tested out his new Road Demon....13.81

...with the Eddy carb....14.3, I pass the witness your honor.

Do you remember the AMX project.....12.72 with an 850 Holley...

At the close of last year it ran a 12.06 with a Mighty Demon 750

We curved the distributor and cleaned up the exhaust some and ......
Saturday it ran a 11.83

Ok ...your turn.....

Thumbs up

I forgot to say thanks for all the info. I realize Eddy ain't the best choice in the world for racin app's, but I needed something quick n' dirty to replace the AVS. With all the other bills this GTX and my other two projects are racking up, I'm having to do a bit more "make do" than I would like to. I would say somebody shoot me, but the GTX FORCED me to buy it even though I had a full garage already

Don, I was curious if you could elaborate on the primary problems of the 750 Eddy a little bit?

BTW, I did finally figure out why I wasn't seeing any archive articles. D'oh! Turns out you posted something pretty damn good on the tuning aspects already...

What can I say?
The AMX ran a 11.71 last week and Nitro Boy ran 13.812, 13.814, 13.811. 13.814 and went ourt with a .670 light...can't help him there.....

Let's see.....Eddy carb...$289.00
Parts to make it almost work....$50.00
Time to have us drill it and try and make it work....$200.00

Total...$530.00
End result ...you still need a carb....

Road Demon $339.00
Speed Demon $399-439.00
Mighty Demon $499.00

Your done, that's all you'll ever need

This why you'll find Eddy's on Ebay for $10 to $100.00 and Demons cost almost as much used as new....it's your money.

Cuda, can you get whistles for the Demons? I'll let the others wonder what whistles are
