Default Intake and gears for the 1/8 mile.

I have been tring to get my car to run the best as possiable before going to the track (1/8 mile). I keep changing things on my car so have not been yet. I am getting ready to swap on a Street Dominator intake for my Eddelbrock Torker II. Has any one done this, it should be worth a 10th right. Also will be switching from 3.91's to 4.30's. This should be worth a few 10ths right. Also my doesnt seem to pull on Top End like it should. The carb is dialed in as the timing too. I still have the 5/16 inch fuel line from the tank to the carb. There may be a fuel starvation problem. It is a 800 Double Pump carb with big 50cc pumps and squirters all around. It also is a factory fuel pump. All though the car pulls hard from take off. It is lacking a bit more from a 55 mph kick. The cam is advanced between 3-4 degs. Its the 284/.528 solid purple shaft. reccomended a 110 intake CL and was 106-107 CL.

I think your torquer II is a pretty decent intake for that set up. I wouldn't expect much of a gain by switching to the Holley. The factory fuel pump feeding that much of an engine is a little scary... do you have a fuel pressure gauge, and what does it read at the top of 2nd gear on a full pass? Also, what exhaust are you running?

Later,

Greg

I have a 4.88:1 8-3/4" center section if your interested
I don't know about the intakes, You will just have to experiment.
What stall converter, this is the place to look for 1/8 mile performance (also traction!)

Dump the stock fuel pump and lines. Get a fuel tank or cell with a sump, rear mount electric fuel pump and 1/2" fuel lines.
I use a 250 GPH fuel pump @ 18+psi pumping fuel to a bypass regulator (regulated to 6 psi) mounted on the engine parallel location to the carbs fuel bowls to minimize pressure changes under acceleration "G" forces.

As usual with holleys, rear jet extentions in the fuel bowl.
I also like blocking the rear power valve and jetting up. If the car launches really hard, you may need to have a taller bowl vents so fuel dosen't splash out of the bowl vents on launch.

I have the Schumacher System. With 2 1/2 out the back and 2 chamber flowmasters. Which I wil be disconnectig at the track. This may or may not be a good idea with the short Tri-Y headers. The converter told is a 3500 Fairbanks, it seems to do real well. The car hooks decent with the brand new 295/50/15 although it spins much of 1 st gear, at least it doesnt set still. I figure the 4.30 gear wont help in the traction department. I Need to sale my other Car before I can do some fuel plumbing. The fuel line has gotta be maxed out.

What you want for that 4.88 gear ? I might be interested.

I'd really like to trade it for a 3.55:1 center section.

On the 4.88:1 center section I din't mention price because Everything in it is new. It is a '742 case, new gears, bearings and sure-grip. I'd like to get $400 for it. I had it in my '71 Charger for about 100 street miles when I had a mild 383 in the car. I was going to use it in my '69 R/T Hardtop Project car, but that project may never get done now that I bought the '69 R/T convertable.

I have a 3.55 somewhere. I wanted it for a asphault sportsman car I'm building. With the cam rule I think that will be right for the 5/8 mile oval. Friend tried a 5.14 in a 9 incher and it fell on it's nose at the flag stand and pulled way too many rpm's around 68 to 7 I think is what he told me.

I wanted to run a locker though. Wonder if it would be much difference between the sure grip and locker? 400 kinda steep, but maybe we can work out a trade here some how.

6 packin,
Which car and motor? That topic has been overlooked. By the way, I also have a complete 3.55:1 suregrip set up if the others fall thru, that I would consider letting go.

Sorry about that, its a 73 Duster 440/727. Its a stock 66 short block. It has closed chamber heads with big valves and port work. The converter is a 3500 Fairbanks.

How much do you think shipping an 8-3/4" center would cost?
I'm running a 3.91:1 now, just looking to reduce my RPMs on the highway, but when I put my 3.23:1s in, I was under my converters stall speed unless I was going over 70 MPH.

dwc43 and drag-n-cuda, what case and condition are the 3.55:1s in and what you looking to get for them?

My gears are fine, I just wanted a cheaper means of getting a 4.88:1 just in case it is not what I want. Dont need a lot of low gears around no one can use or sell them too.

I'll check tonight. Used for street driving only on non-sticky tires. Factory set-up, never apart. Cone style (Auburn?) posi works good.
