Default Attn. Cuda

I went out to the track this weekend at Bremerton and made three passes on my brand new 451. Got the car home to adjust valves and noticed the top of 9 of the intake pushrods were burnt only at the top, maybe one inch. So I ordered a new set of pushrods from Smith Bros. Basically are the adjusting nuts supposed to cover the whole cup or are they to be a touch smaller to where the ball only sits 1/2 way in the cup. We are getting oil up top, 75 psi with oil pump primer. I am running Crane Gold rollers. Thanx for any info. I just don't like having to replace pushrods after each weekend in a 600 hp car.

Are the pushrods sticking in the lifter? And so spinning too much? What are you setting the gap at? Cold? Hot? What is the weight of the oil? Cuda will have to help on this as you know.

We found out tonight after I posted this message that the balls on the adjusting screws are sticking in the cups of the pushrods. I am using 10-30 right now, ( one more weekend on that), and than I will go to 20-50 synthetic as the weather warms. I have Smith Bros. shipping me some new adjusting screws. So hopefully their adjusters will fit their own pushrods. Next race is Mopar on June 3rd, so I will find out than. Thanx

Don't you mean MAY 3rd. Before the car show on the 4th at Carnation? Seattle Chapter of Mopars unlimited.

Maybe it is a simple fix. Good luck.

my father-in-law will be running it on Saturday because I will be out of town, but I will be running it on Sunday. Look for a red '64 Polara on the return road, that is where the car will be. It'll be next to a robin egg blue '64 also, putting that motor together as we speak

Ya, but I wasn't running the number(10.5's). After finding the problem with the pushrods I also found that one spark plug wire (#6) came off and 1, maybe 2 others weren't firing. 12.4 on 6 cylinders isn't shabby

Good looking car. Always wanted a hemi polara . If you can remember the crapiest looking car in the poor boy bracket, that would be me. My son-in-law wore a sac over his head whenever he got within 20 feet.

Biggrin Got Oil?

I think when I had that problem it was due to lack of oil at the pushrod / adjuster. I changed over to an oil through the pushrod setup from Comp and the problem went away.

I hope that you get it figured out soon, Good Luck!
