Default Spark plugs.Which ones?

I went to get some plugs for my 67 440 with 906 heads, my old chiltons book says J11Y NAPA said you cant get em they give RJ12YC.Hughes says NGKXR5. I would like to stay with a reasonable priced american plug. My inital startup will be with a mallory dual point since this is what the car had when I took it apart and I know it works. On the subject of this dist I cannot get it to point to what the books say should be #1 on the cap.The drive is close to being lined up with the center of the cam/ lengthwise. It is impossible to get it right on at TDC.#1 will end up at 4:00 or 10:00 not 8:00 like all the books show.Is it possible that this dist is just built different and not worry about it, and just wire it up right the way it is.Thanks guys

Autolite 85's

The champions they listed are just a tad hotter and a resistor plug they would work also.

I personally run NGK's like them alot.

it doesnt really matter where your #1 plug is on the cap but if you want to change it you need to pull out the oil pump shaft by yanking out the gear the dist sits in. kind of hard to do without taking the intake off and valley pan also.

I personally like the NGK's.

I've had good luck with the XR4. Most stores around here want to charge about $3.00 each, and special order them. One store has them for $1.59 and stocks them...guess who I buy from?

Good luck,

Default distributor line up

Regarding you not being able to get the rotor to point where it is suppose to....

Many years ago I was working on a buick and could not get the timing light to show correct timing. Long story, turns out the 2 pieces of harmonic balancer had slipped relative to each other, which moved the rotating timing mark. Does this ever happen on mopars?

Yes, it does happen on MOPARs, however, this is not the problem that he has described. This is an initial startup. He has lined up tru TDC based on where the piston is. What he is seeing is the way that the oil pump drive has been installed. It doesn't really matter where the dist points for number 1, as long as you have enough room/play to adjust the timing in either direction.

I made sure to check for slippage and then I paint a small reference mark on the balancer so I can keep an eye on it later. It lines up perfect at 12degrees BTDC. I was just going to wire it up anyway, cause I dought you can buy the correct fit set of plug wires anyway.Ill check into these other plugs. Thanks
