How Many Horses Does It Take?
How much horsepower does it take to get a 3700 pound ride through the 1/4 mile in the 14's? The tranny is a stock 727 with a 3.23 suregrip rear end. The tires are in the neighborhood of 215 75r14 but these could be swapped on special occasions. I'm not looking for a parts list just a good guestimate of how much power it would take? Thank You. Jason.

big block!
get any 440 that doesn't blow smoke.
drop it with headers and a good intake (earlier year factory or small dual plane) and go run 14's! about 275 hp |

I know that my 68 Charger with a factory 383-4 (needing a rebuild) would run 14.75 all day long. The 68 383-4 was rated at 335hp, I'm sure that being in need of a rebuild, I was probably closer to 280 - 300 hp.

Its not hard to push big cars like many Mopars in the 12's through the 1/4. Just take about any 440 (thats not blown up) add some go fast goodies, like a Rv cam, good intake and carb, with good gear and converter and run High 12's. With a 3.91 gears and a good converter, no need to wind it up like 6000 grand either. So you say 14's. All stock parts will do that. Even stock 340 parts.
