Gear swaps?
I am looking to improve my 60 foot times. I need a low gear than my 3.91 with a 30 inch tall tire. 4.30's should pick it up a tenth or so in the 60 foot right? who has done this swap, and what were there out come?
Any one would like to swap a 4.30 or 4.56 for a 3.91 case. I will pay for shipping. I dont need a posi, just the case with the pinion still in it, and the ring gear. Thanks Bob

i think you need to experiment with your combo...i actually would have thought that with a 440 in a light car, that it wouldn't mind a taller gear (3.91 vs 4.30). i think that you could find power somewhere else that wouldn't buzz the engine 500 rpm higher through the quarter mile.
but going from a 4.10 with posi to a 4.30 with spool (tirespin is nonexistant with both setups) is worth almost half a tenth drop in sixty foot on my satellite, and about a tenth in the quarter, but bringing the rpms up 300 at the end of the track, and scaring me even more every time i go through the traps @ 6700 =) |
