Default 8 3/4--whats the difference in cases

new to the mopar scene has me rounding up extra parts, whats the difference between the 742,741 , and 489 case. i have a 742 3.23 open in the dart now but also have a 742 3.91,3.23 741 and 489 2 something. what is benefit of each one,i am sure there is a time and place for all 3 but i am a street class bracket racer and want longevity. also are these parts worth anything. thanks as always

The 742 case is arguably the best/strongest case. All though 742 is some what bigger pinion at 1 7/8 tappered type the straight 742 case is a 1 3/4 pinion, same as the new after market Aluminum case. The best posi's are the old clutch pack type held and made by Dana corp. they come in the 742 cases. The later 489 cases have the Borg&Warner type (now Auburn) posi. The all have the same spline at 30. The posi's dont care what case they go in too.
