360 w/ reversed oil pan
I have a 360 engine that was rebuilt by someone else and he has the oil pan installed with the sump at the rear of the engine. The oil pump has been modified to draw from the back of the engine too. The pan was made to be installed this way as the front and rear seals are different sizes so I know it is installed correctly and as designed.
Two questions: 1. What is the reason for doing this? 2. How does somebody (me) check the oil in the engine? The dip stick is in the front. |

The truck pan has the sump in the rear. Necessary to clear the cross member on trucks and vans.
You check the oil the same way. The stick is longer, and goes through a tube, inside the pan, to reach the rear. |
