Valve Cover Gasket Sugestions
I am planning on puting on my new MP Black krinkle valve covers this weekend.
Does anyone have any preferences on type of gaskets and sealer to use? |

Use the Fel-Pro gaskets. My mech, a Chrysler man, said they will offer more clearance being thicker. The MP covers have (For some reason) a lip that interfears with the intake.
I never used sealent. I have been using the MoPar rubber gaskets with the metal inside. |

The rubber impregnated cork Fel-Pro gaskets work great. If you plan on removing the covers often you can use sealant to attatch them to the covers. Don't use sealant on the heads it's a pain to get off.

rumble,
I have heard of that problem before too, but when I test fit them I had no interference with the intake...the problem I do have is with the PCV knock out. I punched it out according to the instructions and I got the gorrect grommet, but there is no way in hell that the grommet fits into the knock out hole. I am going to have to do a little grinding with my dremmel to get this thing to work. I think our local parts store sells fel pro gaskets so I will try them if not i know that the old Plymouth dealer is open in the morning. |

I used a hole saw. Like for door knobs in doors. Then cleaned it up with a dremal. Easy job.

Fel-Pro dosen't make a thicker gasket fo our BB's. Now what am I gonna do when the 400 finished? |

I find the red mopar perfomance neoprene ones seal the best.
With my crinkle covers I used silicone, without a gasket. I didn't have any interferance with mine. Isn't that only on small blocks? I did have a hell of a time getting the pcv stuff to work. In fact, I had a buddy with a machine shop do all the fitting of that stuff. |

Cork is probably fine, but I used a set that were made of a rubber looking material. Got them because I messed up The cork ones ajusting the valves. I left one of the tabs inside the cover while tightening them down. Yep, while at the same chopping my red wire on my unilight, and burning up my module. Wasn't a good day for plydus...

Problem solved!
Well another typical day or wrenching and the end result is a Super bee awake from it's hibernation. It only took me all day and what would working on a Mopar be like with out the typical opps and oh sh&ts. I used a felpro high temp gasket set it looks like a card bourd type of material, but it is oily to the touch. I used some permatex hardening gasket sealer to glue the gasket to the covers. The problem was with the bolt holes. On those MP covers especially on the bottom bolts there was no clearance to use a standard hex head bolt and get a socket in there. I ended up using SS Socket cap screws which look a bit cooler. i used a dremel to open up the PCV hole. So far so good. The good thing is the new header gasket sealed, but the collector gaskets leak. In the meantime I discovered a bad fan clucth and i cracked the coil. Good thig i had spares for both. Cuda's new distributor seems to work excellent. I already noticed a good idle and a better throttle response. The kicker though was the oil leak from the brand new oil psi gauge I just installed. If it's not one thing... |

Hey, bee, are you sure your not working on my car? Sounds like the thrash I had getting ready for Kool April Nites. I have had the clearance promblem on my kid's 340 w/ a edelbrock intake. Allen bolts work great, especially when you have holes so stripped that you have to use 5/16 heli-coils to fill up the hole.

BB v cover gskts
I don't want to hijack the thread here, but here goes.
I am not so concerned with the thickness of v. cover gskts for BB's as I am getting them to seal properly and last, without resorting to aluminum v. covers. They just burn up, get hard and just plain don't seal along the bottom of the v. cover rail. I v'e tried every brand, and every style gskt. The only way I got one to work is on my 76 W200 w/400. I made a v. cover girdle out of tempered 5/16 plate aluminum. It was a bear to make, but its gone 20 years without leaking a drop. I really don't want to make a couple more sets for my other cars. I think those grey silicone/steel reinforced ones like they have for the small blocks might just work if they made them to fit BB's. |

I like the mopar grey rubber ones that have the steel sim inside. The can be reused several times and dont leak. Almost need an extra long bolt to get some thicker covers mounted though.

Seemed like that when my valve covers came they had high quality gaskets with it. They was the black neopren type.

Those High temp gaskets seemed to seal real good. Checked today after running and no leaks.
Yeah i had to get longer screws ended up with 1" bolts and 1 washer...only took me 3 trips to the hardware store to get it right. Fixed the oil leak and set total advance timing from Cuda's new recurved distributor. Bang on with 15" of vacum and a steady idle at 825 RPM. Now I have to re set the mixture because the car is so rich it is stinging my eyes Oh well if it were easy I would have stopped in and bought a Kamaro or Rustang |
