Default tach wiring and engine timing

I need to know how to hook up a Auto Meter Street Tach. I am using a Mopar electronic orange box and dist. I don't have the wiring print for the tach. Do the mopar boxes have a place to hook up the tach or do you still hook the green wire up to the dist. Also what deg. of timing should I start with ? The motor has a 509 cam and 10.5 pistons. 906 heads and I am running a automatic with a full reverse valvebody.
Thanks Ron

Tach hooks to the coil just like always. I'd start at 36* and see what it likes from there.

Thanks for the info. The Tach is working great. I just installed the new dist and set it at 36 *. The car revs up good but it back fires when you back out of it. Any ideas for this. Thanks Ron

I know that there are a few reasons for that. The only one that is coming to mind is too much slack in the timing chain.

Hey ehostler you could be on to something. When I was building the motor I installed a new timing chain. When the chain was installed I thought it had a little slop in it. I asked a racer friend and he told me that it was OK. When I bought the car the guy threw in the short block. He said it was bored and balanced. I thought that it might have also been line bored but had no way of proving it. The guy I got the motor from had no idea because he bought it from another racer who was long gone. I have heard of a special timing chain for this case but what one to chose was the question. If you have any more info that could help please let me know. Thanks Ron

Default timing chain

Rons65 - Hughes Engines has a listing for shorter timing chains for the scenerio you have described - expect Don (cuda273) could help you out also with his many supplier contacts.
