Default rear tire size for a 72 dart swinger...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 1972 dart swinger, everything is stock, 10 inch drums, springs are still in stock location and all, i am using the small bolt pattern ralley wheels that are 5.5 inches wide, i have been running 205/70/14 on them, but i would like to try to put a 60 series under there if i can, i like the height of the 205/70/14 and found that a 245/60/14 would be very close in height, but i need to know if the 245/60/14 will fit in there,. anyone know what i can get in there without rubbing the fender lip or leaf springs? I have been told by several on the other board that the 245/60/14 will fit easily back there, but need to be sure before i spend the money.
thanks

I just put a set of 15x7 Cragar ss/t with 245-60 Goodyears on my wifes '69 Dart, they fit great. The sidewalls were acually narrower than the 235 60 b.f.g. Drag Radials that she runs on the strip.

Go to www.tirerack.com and pick a tire like BFG radial T/A in the size you are thinking about and then click on "specs". you will see a chart with all the tire sizes and the demiensions. You are most interested in the section width, which is the width at the tires widest point. If the section width is, say, 2 inches wider than your present tire, that means the new tire will be one inch closer to the wheel well and one inch closer to the springs. Also pay atention to the recomened rim width.

I have 245/60/14 with American racing wheels @ 4 1/2" backspacing. They fit O.K. and will NOT rub on the fenders or springs. I will try to attach a picture so you can see them. Hope it works.

Thanks, I have 205/70/14 on the front. You should be able to get 245/60's out there somewhere. I have Concorde Radial SR tires here in Alberta but I doubt that you will get them where you are. Try BF Goodrich. I have 7" rims front and back.

Go to a real tire store. 245 60 14's are common. I have them also. The tire store you must have talked to doesn't want your business very bad. The Discount tire store here will order anything you want.

If you live in a small town then you may have to go to the "big city" and tell that to the tire store you talked to. Get what you want and don't settle.
