Question Brake Drum ?

on my 71" Duster someone had the axle re-drilled for the big bolt pattern but stuck with the old drums also redrilled. So they kinda look like swiss cheese. Is it as simple as getting a set of 10" drums from a 73" and up car?

No.

The offset to the backing plate is different

That's why they've been drilled.

The right way, would be to turn down c body axles to fit your diff, then change up the backing plates and drums.

Figured it wouldn't be that easy. Anyone ever seen bolts used as wheel studs? They threaded the axle and Put grade 10 bolts with star washers to hold them in place. Not my favorite idea but they seem to work ok. Wondered how hard it would be to have proper wheel studs pushed in

probably have to remove the axles. If the holes are tapped/threaded to 1/2" 20, then they make threaded studs. Go to your local speed shop.

I have a rear disc brake conversion that's cheaper than most other kits that I'll discount to ya since your a chat member.

THe screw in studs are a race piece and are quite common.

Wouldn't 4 wheel discs with a manual brake system make for a tough peddle? Local speed shop? Thats about 3hrs away but I'll have to look. I don't really like the bolt set up.

manual disc brakes aren't any more "tough" peddle than a manual drum brake. If setup correctly with proper master cylinder and peddle assembly. If you have manual now it should be no problem. You have the ass. [bell crank] [peddle arm] [ect] you would need.

Maybe you can talk to the "local" speed shop about doing some over the phone buying with a credit card and ship it to you. I've done that with a gocart place for parts a couple years ago.

To be done right, it all needs to be changed. Find a C-body as mentioned before, get the axles baking plates and drum hardware from it. They have the biggest drum brakes of them all. Jut give Greg Moser a call tell him what your doing and what you need and send the axles off. It will be right, the first time, instead os spending money for quick band-aids, which will cost more in the long run.

You want kow the difference in peddle presure, but you sure as heck will know the difference in stopping power. Stops quicker than any rear drum set up, less brake fade, choice of pads. Just call moser or I can even get you a set of correct axles with the correct bolt patern. Then do the disc conversion and your done. Want prices just let me know and I'll fix you up for American dollars and shipping. That will save you some money that way since the dollar value is different. I might can even get the shipping for you. Let me know and I'll fix you up.
