I have a 71 Cuda that originally came with power steering. It was converted to manual by a prevoius owner. I am swapping it back. I was told that the steering shaft was too long anfd I would have to swap out for a shorter shaft for power steering. I bought a steering shaft from 440Cuda.com and installed it. It comes up 1-2 inches short of the gear box. Is the steering coupler different (I am using the old coupler). Any ideas?? Thanks.

Hey 71cuda. Chrysler used a sliding two piece shaft. It was held together or in place with nylon pins. Some people would break the nylon pin and just adjust the shaft to fit. Or the pins might have broken from removal from last owner. Just look at the shaft above the coupler and inspect the pins. You might what to see if the shaft will pull down. I always used the correct steering shafts but not all have.
They used two-possibly three pins. GOOD LUCK. ------------------ [This message has been edited by vernvesco (edited September 25, 2000).] |

You might want to give Dick Ross a call at Firm Feel, Inc. (1-360-574-8093) He'll hook you up with what you need--and maybe some upgrades to the "too easy" Chrysler power steering boxes--"firmer feel" is what you want. And he's got them.
