Default maybe small stroker??

Hey I was thinking (I know that's kinda dangerous) maybe I could stroke a 318 by machining a 360 crank to fit the mains. Has anyone ever tried this? what kind of stroker combos do you guys have?

The simple answer is yes. Before the introduction of the MP 4" stroker crank, this was the only low-buck stoker combo available. With a stock bore in the 318, you'll get 344 inches, with a .030 overbore you'll have 349.

The problem you face is getting pistons with the correct compression height. There used to be off the shelf pistons for 340's to do this, don't know if they're still made or if they're now custom. Everything is changing over to the MP crank now, if you want to buy a package deal.

There's an old article in one of the Mopar mags where they do this exact buildup. Someone on this board sent me scans of this a while back, but I forget who. The article was entitled MOPAR 350 or something like that. Maybe if you search that you will find the post. Search back at least a year...as it was awhile back.

I think you would be better off just going with a 360, For one if you have a good 360 crank you can use that. Plus im assuming you would replace all the pistons rods ect in the 318 anyways so why not just do that with a 360. Your stroker 318 would a long stroke to bore ratio which wouldnt be too great for revving up. Besides with a 360 you still win over in cubes too.
Oh yeah to Tstiener61 whats your dart look like ? maybe ive seen you around town. Mines puke green rides low and has a primered roof.

Well it was a thought. mainly cuz Im looking for a use for the 4 318's I have and my buddy has a steel 360 crank with a spun bearing. My swinger currently has a 360 but the plan is for a stroked 400 that is what kinda got me thinking about a stroked 318 in another project.

Default HEY DART

Are the 360 strokers good for reving up with their stroke to bore ratio ? Just trying to find out what my stroker will do ?

71dart666,
Mine's puke green, too. With a black primered roof. I'm usually driving around Bascom & Hamilton area.

darren509,
Typically, strokers aren't really built for high revving. I have my rev limiter at 6200. But you can build one for higher revs. Mopar Muscle did one last year. I forget what month, but the article was entitled 'Ultimate A-bomb' or something like that. Built specifically for high hp and operation in the 7000+ range. Don't remember if they ever told us how well it fared, though.

62OO RPM is plenty enough for me. It will be a street strip motor, so if having a stroker means getting alot of grunt right away then there shouldnt be a reason to take it higher than that. Thank's. Bye the way what cam and gear ratio are you running ?

I'm running the Hughes HE2430 cam.
.504/.515 270/276 (223/230 @ .050)
Gears are currently 3.23, but I plan on swapping in some different sets to see what I like best. Cam REALLY kicks in nice around 2000 rpm. Power to spare in all 4 gears. High end so-so but all that torque produces some

The catch with my cam selection is I am running a distributorless ignition system (Electromotive) with Multi-Port fuel injection. This allows me to get a much better idle than with carbureted. I get smooth idle all the way down to 800 rpm and pull about 15.5 in vacuum. Ask the guys at Hughes, but if you are carbureted, you may want to step down one to the 1930 that they have or your idle may suffer.

71dart666,
I'm surprised I haven't seen you either. I used to live right off Del Mar on Marlboro Ct., moved across Bascom, now I live in that area just south of the hospital around Stokes.

Tsteiner, Yeah that is a surprise. Dont look for me anytime soon though.. my Darts converter/tranny just took a shit on me.. well its making a terrible grinding noise so I am not driving it now. But ill be back on the road in a month or so when I get my 318 in there. By the way... are you going to the Mopar Car Show at Olhone college in Fremont this weekend? I went last year and it was great.. never seen so many nice mopars in my life.
