Let me re state the question. WHo would buy a 2002 Ram/Dak and what would you like it to come with???
My personal selection would be a Dakota R/T(and TO COIN A PHRASE..the "R/T" in the instance means REAL TRUCK!!!!) with 6 speed 353 Hemi(with 350 Hp at the rear Wheels) and leather buckets. 17" Wheels and a dana 60 rear end.. YEAH BABY Maxwedge |

You'd be able to get it with a fiberglass shaker hood, late 60's high impact colors and a cool horn. 4.10 gears would be standard with ratios available down to 4.56. You could get it without the nicest trim options and be able to delete A/C, Power steering, Radio, and anything else that didn't make it go faster.
And it'd be almost as quick as the New Chargers which would be available with the same options. |

Yes
I would buy a ram as long as it had a good payload and an excellent towing package, and a powerful motor with a good transmission and rear. I would want to see a 1 ton with a regular rear end. If that wasn't available then I would got with a 3/4 ton. Don't want a dual. If I need a dual it will be an older truck anyway. ------------------ 1988 Dodge Ram D100, 3.9 V-6, Throttle Body Fuel Injection, Chrysler A-999 Transmission, Chrysler 8.25 Rear with 3.54 gear, Hercules Step Bumper 1200#tongue/12000#pull, Reese Hitch 750#tongue/7500#pull, Hopkins "Quick Connect" Trailer Plug, Hopkins trailer circuit breaker, Kenwood AM/FM Stereo CD player, Pioneer 5 speaker system, Mohawk aluminum cap(painted to match truck) with custom installed PM red/yellow marker lights and PM third brake light, 2 sets of Custom Cut Floor Mats Red and Burgundy, Custom Built Lighted Cupholder/Console with control switch. I like your R/T=Real Truck. I always wondered why Chrysler changed it from "Rapid Transit" to "Road & Track." I always liked the Rapid Transit name.

This is how I'd want mine.... 1 ton or 3/4 ton,4 doors,5 speed automatic trans, the biigest gasoline engine or a diesel, and most of all a decent price. If the price isn't decent,I'll be looking for a used 4dr Ford or Chevrolet and hating life.

Hey Christopher. That new MB auto that they are going to build at the Chrysler Tranny plant II, in Kokomo Indiana is supposed to be
a 5 gear isnt it??also the new 353 is supposed to get 30mpg when crusing..thats linda cool...I think though IF I got the v-8 I would want a stripper truck with little to no frills, Big radiator/alternator/oil cooler and bucket seats..no 600 dollar POS facotry radio..thank you.. I cant believe the money they ask for with the factory radios... Max |

From what I hear it will be a 5-speed,and that you can tow with it in OD. Mopar needs to move faster though, the new Chevrolet has the Allison 5-speed A/T that works great.

MAX --when you say Real Truck do you mean one that has all power in by 4 grand. Forget a factory "hot rod" truck- it aint never gonna happen! Tho , it is a nice dream...Dont be duped like our lawsuit friend who thought his Ram V-10 should perform like a Viper V-10! Because of extreme pressure from Congress, Detroit(or Stuttgarte or whereever) will alwaays ere on the side of caution when it comes to fuel economy vs performance--to them, that IS performance! my .02

For those who still don't know what R/T designates. always has and always will, the R/T stands for "Road & Track".
Rapid Transit was only used to sell Plymouths, as in RTS - "Rapid Transit System". As far as buying a current design Ram or Dakota, unless you really need a NEW truck at this time, my advise is don't! In 18 to 24 months the new designs of the Ram and Dakota pickups will be out. They will look very much like the POWER WAGON Concept Truck. If you don't believe me, visit your local Toy Department and you'll see all the cool RC Power Wagons in Silver next to the PT Cruisers etc... Also, you'll have the new 5.7-liter 353 cid V8 and current tech, instead of trying to deal with the current 5.9 Magnum which is very limited in performance due to the Computer system. No matter how you want to cut it, it cannot hold it's own against the Ford Lightning or GM's LS-1 cars. Sorry, but it needs to be said and the truth always hurts. I'm speaking both in factory and aftermarket $$$. I'll drop a Crate 360 in my truck and hold off for the new designs coming in 2002 and 2003. |
