Default Fuel Line and Nos??

I am currently going with a 3/8 or 1/2 fuel line on my Duster. I will be running a Stock Hemi Street mech fuel pump for main supply of fuel. I plan to retain the orignal 5/16 fuel line for a NOS Plate system adj from 100-150 HP shot. I plan to run a cheap (yea I know) Holley Blue or Summit equivlent type elecrtic fuel pump just for the NOS. So Here goes?

1) Just running the elec Fuel pump to the plate do i need a regulator? Wouldnt think so??

2) Will the 5/16 fuel line be suffiecent for that amount of Nos? (think 4 lbs/minute for 100 HP shot.)

3) what was the old rule of thumb or igntion timing retard for 100 shot???(4 deg?)

4) Also is all that other acceseries crap like purges necc for good operation. I would also like a some good info on line for NOS setup for beginers.

1) Yes, you do need a regulator as the NOS palte is not going to regulate it.

2) If the 5/16 fuel line is suppling nothing but the NOS plate and it has its own feed from the tank, it should be fine.

1: i'm not going to use a regulator (course, i'm using a purolator elec pump...) i'd rather have more fuel than NOS...just to keep from burning stuffs up.

2: yea, 5/16 should be fine...i'll be shootin 180 shot, and i'm usin a 3/8 line.

3: 2* for every 50HP shot...so yeah, for 100 shot 4* is a good rule of thumb

4: purges i think are mainly for show, but they do rid the line of any condensation and air from the line, and insure nos is going to hit quickly.

bottle heaters are good to insure consistancy (gas laws).

i have a Jacobs Nitrous Mastermind which i would definently recommend! you can adjust engine retard, flow rates, and rev limiter from within the cab. there is also a 4psi safety fuel shut off switch included. if the fuel psi gets too low, it can burn up the engine, so if the psi drops lower than 4psi, the mastermind will cut the NOS quickly (don't remember number - fraction of a second) i think theres even screws to adjust the mixture on the mastermind as well (have to double check).

good luck

1. Why not run a regulator??? Unless you are using an electric pump that is only putting out 7 psi, the regulator is needed, unless you like the idea of throwing in more fule than the engine can use.

I just figured the jets in the plate will flow only what it can, no floats or seats to destroy.

Thanks 72 RoadRunner
I do plan on going with a adjustable timing retard, but i will be going with a MSD Type setup, i already have the 6AL and 2Step installed. I have heard nothing but good things from jacobs.

Exactly. There is no need to run a regulator as the jets themselves become the regulator. What are you going to be using to activate the system? WOT switch? What solenoids are you going to be using.

And maybe I'm confused by why are you going to be running a pump inline with your NOS system?

And the 3/8th line will do just fine.

 No press reg??

As Ed has said, the jets WILL NOT regulate the flow. Flow is a function of the source of the fuel and the pressure it is running at.
A system pressure of 14psi will have totally different flow rate at another pressure.
If it's a carb jet or a NOS jet, the pressure in the system will affect the flow.
BTDT

PS: To be accurate on the fuel pressure setting, you must set the reg w/ the fuel flowing , and not deadheaded against the solenoid.

I've run a Holley Red Pump (3/8" line, unregulated to the NOS selnoid), and a Holley Blue (1/2" line, regulated 5psi to the carb or carbs at different times ). Never had a problem except for popping a head gasket once, but I don't feel that was due to unregulated fuel on the Nitrous (fuel) selnoid. Cheap system that works great. Also, I'm moving my return line from the engine compartment to just after the pumps in the rear. I got the idea from an expensive BG pump. I'll let you know how it works. Should save some $$ on fuel lines!!!

Later,

Greg

I guess a regulator will be needed for proper output, I will be running the electric pump for fuel supply to the Nos plate only. The hemi mech pump will feed the carb, with new 3/8 line probably. I will retain stock (now) 5/16 fuel line for the Nos fuel supply. I guess i will be using the switches that come with the kit and a toggle switch to arm and power the fuel pump that while a WOT switch to activate the Nos, simple and effecient is what im after.

an idea for a coupla add ons to make your nos system safer and more fun to use...a bottle pressure gauge and heater. you want to keep pressure at bout 900-950 psi.

a msd rpm activated window switch is nice too. makes the nitrous much more consistent and adds a safety feature. it cuts the nos on and off at the same rpm every time. you set the on/off with rpm pills from msd. it lets you cut the nos off before you have the chance to hit the rev limiter on your 6al.

nos and rev limiters DO NOT mix well.

if you have never used nitrous before, be warned, its CRACK for your car.

Thanks for the picks 72 RR, they will be used.
