Default Ford Tranny in Mopar?

OK, so I spent half an hour looking at another thread that was nothing but bashes and defenses against guys who try to put non-mopar items in their cars.

I'm not interested in opinions, I want facts.

I just read on a website that there's a 4-speed ford transmission (top loader) that will bolt right up to a mopar bellhousing. They said it was originally on a 428 Cobra Jet car.

Is this true? Has anyone seen/heard about anything like this? Any info is appreciated.

Thanks!

The 4 speed in question, came behind 427 side oiler. cross bolted main big mill Fords. They were race only and had very thin wall casting to save weight, yea it may work, but why pay thousands of dollars for a worn out tranny, thats inferior to the 18 spline hemi 4 speeds. Thats why you can buy adapter kits for the mopar crash box, to use behind most any old domestic V-8. I did see a 427 with the tranny attached, amybe 5 years ago. The oly one I ever saw. There probably scarce as chicken lips, around here.

A purest will not mix and match parts and I respect there thoughts and cars but, a hot rodder will mix and match parts/ be it what he has access to or what combo he likes. I happen to be a hot rodder at heart with a 400, 4 speed mopar in a 23T with a ford 9" rear end. But to answer your ? I dont think that is a direct bolt-up combo but, I have never tried it. If you have access to both you could make a cardboard template of the front of the tranny & match it to the bell housing

A local speed shop around here has a trick Ford - AOD tranny to bolt behind a Chevy or MoPar. I think they wanted $2500 or so.
There is of course the Tremac conversion if you want to row your own boat.
The conversion you speak of is unknown to me.

Heck you could always get a standard top loader and order a Lakewood bellhousing with the bolt pattern that you need.

yeah, I feel your pain on that one. the budget doesn't allow the Keisler, which I think we all would want, nor the gas I spend just goin around town.

Just lookin for an affordable solution. If it has to be a Ford for a little while until I can afford the Keisler, so be it.

I don't think it would be worth it, you can get a good mopar 4 speed, I besides, the tranny has got to cost an arm and a leg, and if it is thin wall casting and used for race only, it will be worn and probably not very good. just so you now, this has nothing to do with the whole Ford in a Mopar thing, I have a 9 inch in my truck

So, any miracle cures for us poor, underdriven guys? I'd love to be able to push more than 10 MPG on the freeway. I just thought this might be a standard ford tranny (I don't know much about fords), and was wondering what you thought.

I mean, the keisler would be awesome. Anyone have an old one they're throwing away for pittance they'd like to sell me? I can build a website in trade!

Hey wait, maybe keisler would want an update for their website. Hmm...

Lentech, who specializes in the AOD tranny can do this for Mopar SB and BB. Around $3,000. A lot of coin, but that Over Drive is nice on a streeter

I would say a OD tranny from a pickup truck could be had and installed much cheaper, than the AOD. I just dont think there is to many OD transmission (automatic) that could hold Big Block torque, without spenging major coinage on.

A recent issue of hot rod showed some new bellhousings that mcleod I believe is puting out where you can put a adapter on the bellhousing and mount a variety off dif trans to it suppose to be available for mopars soon only ferds and cebbies now imagine a t56 behind your smallblock!

It's goin behind a nice 340 with a set of 323s. Currently a 727 auto. I'm just explorin my options and I didn't know what was out there. I'm gonna do the keisler someday, or maybe one of the gear-vendors swaps, but for now, I guess I'll buy a bigger gas tank or something.
