Question ignition box

I have a Wells 106 Chrome ecu and as this was sold to me as a performance ignition box I was wondering where it is in comparrison to other ecu's - is it any good or should I get a MP chrome box?? Cheers, James.

Thumbs down

It may work OK, but I doub't it will perform as well as a Geniune
M.P. "chrome Box" It probably will not allow the engine to rev to to higher RPM's as the "real" Chrome box does. It is probably just a chrome "dress Up" part (just a replacement part chromed) Wells is pretty much a replacement parts company, not a "speed parts" company

Thanks for the info - my car doesn't seem to want to rev past 4000 rpm - at the moment it only has the stock dizzy and this wells box - could this be the problem? - I'd like to know before I outlay $450 Oz dollars for a new ignition set-up. Cheers, James.

Unhappy

$400.sounds pretty steep for an ignition box, although I don't know what the exchange rate is (Oz to US greenbacks) Can you get any MSD Ignition parts there? They are superior to the Mopar boxes.

Man, even a Wells replacement box will rev past 4K. I think you got other issues.

$450 is for full ignition set-up - distrtibutor, box, resistor, harness etc. We have MSD stuff here no probs, but its pricey and I'm all out of bucks! Still if it gets me where I want to go it'll be cheaper in the long run I guess. Cheers, James. At the moment AUS $1 will buy US $0.66

I have three acceptable boxes, a Borg/warner, an LX 101, and a no name box from pep Boys., and they all seem to work just fine, although the LX101 runs a bit smoother in the mid range.

All are less than $50 US.

One of these days I'll go for an MSD, but for now, I can quickly swap out a defective unit, cheap too.

I know this is not a performance unit, but I'm not looking for 1/10ths, just street fast.

I'll bet you can get an acceptble unit there too, since most of the parts are made in Singapore. Best yet, from a chain, if it's no good, just return it....

Default Update

The proto type is ready!

FBO Bullet Ignition System

We have sent one of our stage 1 distributors to the engineer and we should have the calibration set on it in a few days.

Here's what we have developed…

We changed our design slightly and decided to incorporate the Multi Spark Discharge feature.
The box will multi spark equivalent to a 6AL box up to 3000 RPM where it goes into a single spark mode just like the high dollar boxes.

The output numbers are right at 65KV to 6500 RPM and drop slightly to about 45-50 KV up to 8000 RPM. Compare these numbers to a Orange Mopar box at 38KV and dropping to 18KV at around 4000 RPM.

We also incorporated a dial type REV limiter adjustable in 100-RPM increments.

We have also programmed in a “pick-up coil” advance curve. As the distributor increases in RPM the pick-up coil has an inherent retard that occurs, our box has an electronic curve built into it that will slightly advance the timing to compensate for the this slight but important drop in the advance...the curve line was dead flat up to 8800.

The unit measures about 3" x 4" and is about 3/4" thick..

Installation will be a plug and play system involving 4 wire splices and estimated at about 20 minutes.

The coil we have developed for the system has massive output and can supply 85KV of spark up to 8000 RPM with no overheating after 12 hours at 7500. This far exceeds the output and endurance of a Blaster 2 coil and the Accell Super Coil.

The testing has shown us that this unit will give you total spark up to 500 HP and 6500 RPM.

The entire system ...box w/rev limiter, wiring harness, coil w/wire will go to market in about 3 weeks at about $189.00.

The box comes with a 2-year full replacement warrantee and coil will come with a 5-year replacement warrantee.

This exceeds the competitions 1-year warranty and most parts houses 90-day program.

Compare the price to a 6Al or HI-6 at $200+, add in their coils at $29.00+ and a box of REV limiter chips for another $30.00, 2 hours or more to install that big box you can see this product is absolutely the best ignition system for your Mopar and competitively priced.

MADE IN THE USA!

Smaller, easier to install, built in features, Made in the USA, better Warrantee, less money and more efficient….any questi

We're going to ship in quantity to Dave's Mopar Specialties in Calgary so that should help keep the cost down for our Canadian Bothers.
