Default Big Block questions

I am currently building a Big Block Dakota which I will more than likely be installing a 451 as I already have a 400 block. My question is should I hold out and find a 440?? Also I was looking at 4 bolt main caps are they worth the extra money?? My other question is what should I use for a rad and electric fans?? I am also debating if I should box in the rest of the frame. What do you guys think?? I would like to get this truck into the low 12's possibly high elevens.

PS this Dakota is a 87 2wd long box

6 of one, half a dozen of the other. The 451 and the 440 are exactly the same except for the .020 difference in the bore. For instance a .030 over 400 w/440 crank and a .050 over 440 are the same displacement, 449.96 CID. The 400 block yields a smaller package with light pistons. The B and RB are good for 600+HP with the 2 bolt mains. An aluminum crossflow would be adequate for cooling. Not familiar with the chassis so no comment there.

No need to box the frame in. The stroker will out aaccelerate teh 440 due to lighter weight internals giving you a bigger advantage even if both have the same hp. Also less weight on the front of the truck which hampers weight transfere that causes traction probs. As for a rad I'll sell you a new Griffin cross flow for 205 and a 15.5 puller fan for at 2450 cfm too. Let me know if interested. ******************** .Hope that helps you out some in your quest for speed.
