Nice Nice Nice but you better put a tarp over the hood and big ole mud flaps behind the rear tires if you want to stay in the sleeper catogorey

Cool

Good concept.Good-looking car. However,I most certainly would dump those wide rear tires and those carbs sticking out of the hood. The tires and protruding carbs are a tremendous distraction from the classic lines of the 5th Avenue. Also, these detract from its true sleeper status.
What kind of engine does it have?Just curious.
By the way,I don't live far from you!

yeh, get that rear axel shortened, tub the rear end, and paint the carbs black (and only drive at night) and you'd be closer to a true sleeper

Im still workin on it

Yes I agree with all of you. I have a correct width rear end and cop car wheels with 235/60's for the back. I am gonna hang it with ladder bars and coil-overs as soon as i get the budget back in order.
Then I am really going to drop the car to the gound. "Low and fast" someone told me once.

Cool

The narrowed rear-end with cop-car wheels sounds like an excellent gameplan to me!But then again, most anything would be an improvement over the present set-up.
If it were me,I would buy a set of American Racing Torq-Thrust II wheels with a nice wide set of tires all around.P255/60R-15 tires with a set of chrome Torq-Thrusts sounds really good!
Do you have a 360 under the hood?Just curious.

Laugh under the hood?

Yes, most definatly a 360! .060 over 11:1 comp solid cam, full port & polish, twin holley 600's.
I am thinking of changing my screen name to somthing else. cuz I am done trying to keep the sleeper look.

No way thats not the TN look. Primer it black, crack the windsheild and run open headers. Also you MUST add a giagantic rebel flag backwindow cover or maybe one painted on the roof like the general lee, THEN you will have that TN look/

Nah,I would just install the aforementioned American Racing Torq-Thrust II wheels and the P255/60R-15 tires.Replace the dual carb set-up with an Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap dual plane mainfold and Holley Street Avenger carb.Perhaps install a A-518 Torqueflite and back it with an 8 3/4 rear-end with a Dana Sure Grip and 3.91 gears.Exterior-wise,just give it a few fresh coats of paint, and do what restoration needs to be done.
At least, that is what I would do.
Merely my two (2) cents worth (?)...................

Default SUCKS!

I just discovered that one of the screws fell out of the bottom of the front holley and found its way into # 3 cylinder
gonna put the borescope to it to check the damage.
I will give up my tunnel ram and dual carbs when they pry them from my cold dead lead foot! hehe

Default Sleeper: Dual car question for yah!

Did you tune them yourself, or, did you get someone to hook it up to a dyno and do the tuning? I'll have to tune my dual set-up soon, and was wondering if you had any tips?

Thanks!

Tuning is fairly simple on a typical TR with two four barrel carbs.

Just read the plugs cruising and at WOT ------ and tweak the jetting from there.

Exclamation Hey Sleeper

Glad to see your still kicking. It's been a while since I've been here and remember your prior trials. I hope you have a thick skin, cause we both know that a car is an on-going event. We do as we can and learn from it. UNLESS YOUR ONE OF THOSE RICH ASS** that thum their noses at the working man. Car looks good but I never did really like the rear-end rake.
Keep at it man.

tuned it myself

I did it myself. Just about everybody said "oh youll have to run really small jets in that 360, 1200 cfm is way too much for that engine"
So I started out with 49's in the front and back carbs. now the secondaries are vac operated so they have the stock metering plates. Ran way too lean with the 49's. Putt the original 66's back in, I ran well but had an off idle accel stumble. put 70's in the front and 71's in the back and boy did that thing come to life!
Ran great till the screw came out of the throttle plate and got sucked into #3 cyl.
So I am sorry to say I am done with the 5th Ave as a fast car.
I will be putting the 318/904 & 7 1/4" back in it, and give it to my dad as a dailey driver.
Maybee I will replace the destroted piston and valves and sit it all down in the 67 barracuda that my brother is giving me. As far as the 5th goes, Its done, I have completetly lost interest in making it a fast car.
Thank you all for your support and wisdom in my endeavors. But I can no longer justify throwing money away like this.

Gripe that one.

one of the ones that secure the baseplate to the main body. If you have a 4 hole gasket you should be ok. if you have a big square hole and a gasket that is a big square, you might want to make sure all those screws are in there really good.

Cry enough

destroyed the piston. looks like it was worked over with an ice pick. either bent or trashed the valves or seats. scored up already .060" over cyl wall. Im done.

I have a 318 that I just built sitting on the stand. I was going to put it in this 77 cordoba and give it to my dad. Instead I will put the 318 in the 5th and give the 5th to him. (after i put the correct rearend under it)
When stuff like that happens to me, I take it as some kind of sighn. I was not supposed to have this 5th Ave hot rod. Im done.
