Default rare A-body?

Ok, i used the R word to hook you.
i just scored a `68 dart 2dr POST. i know they're not rare, but definitly different than the hardtops that we're all accustomed to. my question is, does anyone have any info on these cars? i think i remember seeing a hemi dart post, but can't be certain.

also, i'd like everyones thoughts on where i should go with this car. i've got a deep breathing 340 with a kitted 904/3500 stall converter and sure grip in my valiant. the val only has 45000 miles but has some relatively small rust issues.
should i swap drivetrain or build a second car?

p.s. my best friends neighbor has a fresh built MP performance hemi sittin in his garage for sale. can u spell hemi dart clone?

all opinions read and appreciated!
-thanks

Confused

Don't junk that Valiant! small rust issues? maybe just remove the drivetrain (If you need it for the Dart) and sell the car. The Dart sounds like a nice car to do.W/ a Hemi? even better!

If I were you, I'd build the Dart into a street car in its own right. I wouldn't junk the Valiant just because it has some rust, especially if it's only a little bit. That way, you'd still be able to drive the Valiant while you're working on the Dart. But don't trash the car, eventually, it will be worth some money. A lot? Maybe not a lot, but if you built it right and it's a nice car, it will always have some intrinsic value. None of us here want to see another Mopar sit unloved, or worse yet, go to the crusher. That iron wants to be back on the road; can't you hear what it's telling you?

Question Valliant?

I could be wrong but I would think ANY vintage Mopar would be worth saving where you live. There can't be many of them there.

Just thinking out loud.

I agree 100%! I hadn't even looked at your location, so you definitely ought to get that Dart built as time and money allows. How else are you gonna show your loyalty but to drive them Mopars?

Thumbs up

Put the HEMI in it and make it a rare MOPAR. Then it will be the dream car that most who don't have the time/funds to invest really want. Make it the car that you want, MOPAR followers can't do any better than a HEMI DART prepared to their own specifications. Good Luck!

yeah i saw a fully documented 360 Swinger POST car go at auction a few years back for 15k cad (now it wasn't restored, and it was a low mileage/stored car). but they are fairly rare; is it a column shift or floor shift?

If its floor, grab that Hemi (money permitting), and get a hemi 4speed (from a junkyard, or wherever).

and build yourself a ground pounder. thats what i'd do (money permitting) heh.

thanks for the replies to all (except lizard). the car is a bone stock 6/auto with column shift. the body is rust free with a couple dents. as to the hemi, i only spoke with my buddy's neighbor once. he built the motor himself with a MP 426 short block. he built it to go into a super bee, but the wifey put the nix on his plans. he still has the motor and its for sale, price unknown at the moment, but with the recent sale of my condo i can probably afford it. finding the dana and other hemi running gear might prove to be a challenge, but it doesn't nessessarily have to be hemi specific parts.

as for you, lizard, how many 68 dart posts have you seen in your neck of the swamp?
go back under your rock and stay there!

You found an older Mopar in HI and its not a rust bucket? My sister lives there Halaiwa(?) and she drove a green 68 Valiant 4 dr and it had cardboard floor mats to cover the rust holes. She would go through a puddle and water would shoot up into the interior. It was hilarious!
Anyway, dont sweat the flak on this board, its all good. I dont think anyone here has ever traveled a few hundred miles to put fist to face.

good point pishta. who's wasting whos time here?
yeah, rust is obviously an issue ouy here. i got the val with 31,800 orig. miles on it and it still has silver dollar size rust holes in the floor, as well as the back window area (lower corners). the dart must have been garage kept for most of its life, i haven't found anything worse than surface rust yet. just lucky i guess.
i'm going to try to look at the hemi sometime this week, i'll keep everyone posted.

re: Hemi parts.

dont bother with the dana60, they'll completely weigh yer dart down. just get a nice 8.75 rear, out of a cop car or station wagon (sure grip would be recommended), and drop that in, you'll save like 100+lbs in the rear end.

I've only heard of people NEEDING a dana60 in applications of 600hp+.

But yeah, you can get a 727 and use the same linkage you got now for your column shift, and not worry about hacking up the floor to fit a console shift.

Default hemi motor

i spoke with the guy w/the hemi tonite. he's not gonna separate the motor from car. its not a MP block, its late 60's. the cars a RR,`70 i think. it's almost finished he said. i'll take some snaps and get the dirty details as soon gets it home.
i cant believe the prices this guy has had to pay for a hemicar. the cars a clone, but just the motor parts sounded like a kings ransom. he's got original nascar motor rods that no one makes bolts for. he found a guy on the mainland that used to work on em and had 3 new ones ane some used ones. $20 apiece for a new rod bolt ?? no thanks!
so, gettin my feelers out for a b/rb motor.

i guess in my mid-life i'm getting, well, practical.

-thanks for the replies
