Default 225 build-up

have a 225 in my 74 Dart and I'm wanting to start finding the parts that I'll build it with I'm just wondering what you all have used. I'm going to buy everything before I start and I want the most out of the engine that I can get and still drive easily on the street. Plan on getting a 2400 - 2800 stall (who makes a good one for the slant housing?) I'm wanting to know everything from top to bottom. Thanks

Mr Fiberglass, I know someone needing forged pistons for a slant 6. He is spaying the motor and the casts pistons won't hold up to the amount of NO2 he wants to throw at it.

No thinks though I'm going to go 60 over as I've heard this is still very safe for the 225. I'm also wanting forged as well as I plan on giving it a nice 200 to 300 shot of NOS if need be OR a supercharger but haven't heard of these being used on a 225 doesn anyone know if they are made I know you could get one and MAKE it work but don't want anything to look ghetto

Off the shelf forged is out of production. Only pricey customs can be bought new. The racer I know that was running some .030 over forged since the mid 70s, had a few crack. He found 3 .060 pieces from another racer, bored every other hole to .060 and had half and half motor, .030/.060. When he had valve notches cut on the pistons, the machinist used too big a cutter and the notch went out to the ring land, making it thin, which burnt 2 of the pistons after 3 passes. If he has to run cast, he'll have to turn the NO2 way back.

I don't need them, I run a different combo. The racer that needs them, like most slant sixers, looks for cheaper alternatives (low buck).
What will it take for your bud to turn them loose?

for a set of flat top forged you could expect to pay $450 to $500 for a set on a slant so I'd say if you have $500 for all 7 and the rings that would be fair.

Still wondering good setup for my slant, brands people have used where they got them and anything else.

Okay, well a good place to start on any motor is the heads. And in your case the Slant Six has a lot of metal you can shave off. I don't remember the exact numbers to how much you can take off the head and the block deck, but I found the numbers by just searching for "Slant Six" on a search engine.
Clifford and Wiend are the only to aftermarket comapny's that I know of that make anything for a 225. I have only seen Wiend make a 4barrell intake for the 225. While Clifford makes Dual headers, 4barrell inatakes (and long ram 4barrell inatkes), and prbably some other goodies. Clifford is probably the company you are going to have to deal with for those kind of items.
As far as how much to shave from your motor, it's kind of up to you. I've heard of all kinds of numbers, but the most I've ever heard of a 225 being bored out is 70 over. And again you can shave a crap tun off of the head and block mateing surfaces.
When I built my Leaning Tower of Power, I bored it 60 over, put in a lighter crank, 4barrell intake, 500cfm 4barrell carb (which was too much, I think 400cfm was about right), and Dual headers. I bout my inatke and headers from Clifford and I think together they cost me like $600-$650.
And if I remember right the biggest gears you want in your rear end are 3.55's. I remember researching that, and found that you just start hurting your times if you go to bigger gears than that, but I might be wrong on that.
Another option for carburation is doing a set of tripple side draft Webber carbs. It's three 2 barrell carbs, hooked up in progretion. I didn't do that, for the simple fact of money. The manifold for those alone is well over $800, and then you got three carbs to buy on top of that. Sot it was a little to rich for my blood, and I guess they are a bitch and a half to tune.
But I hope some of this helps you, and feel free to write back if you have anymore questions.

Good Luck,
Jake (SlantSix)

I wish I could tell you. When I was ready to start that project, I didn't have the time to build it myself, being in college and all. So I had a shop build it for me. Luckilky for me I picked the worst freakin shop in town!! They reused old hoses, my old fan belt, didn't put in new gaskets for the valve covers or for the spark plug tubes.
About 3 days after having it, it got a dead cylinder! So I oulled it appart to find a cracked valve seat on #5, a huge gouge in my cylinder wall on #3, and I also found 2 pieces of wire (Coat hanger probably) shoved through the water jackets of my head. I amagine they were trying to fish something out of the head, and just left it in there.
But after assesing all of the damages, it was going to cost a crap tun of money to fix. And since I was then at the time in Arizona going to college, and the shop I got the motor built at was in Washington, and I didn't have any kind of money, there wasn't a lot I could do.
So, since I had to have a car the next day to get to school and work, I went down to a dealership, and had to use my baby to bring down the payments on a Dodge Dakota to something I could afford. And that's about the last time I have seen my slant six. I have plans to buy another, just as soon as I can find a good deal on a Duster or Valient.
