band-aid fix for a noisey differential
My differential has been making a clunking whinning noise since I've purchased it (2 weeks). The u joints were good, and the transmission is great. The diff's oil looked like it had been recently replaced, but really overfilled (like he filled it with the rear jacked up or something). and I can't be sure if he filled it with the correct weight, it's quiet when the oil is cool but gets loud as it heats up, sounds like it's too thin a weight.
I'm looking to replace my 7 1/4" rear with an 8 1/4" rear in the next little while and don't want to spend alot of money on the 7 1/4" right now. Does anyone know of any miracle products that would be able to quiet down the differential for 2 months or so? I swear by Lucas oil, but does anyone else have any ideas? Thanks again Jeff |

If you are going to replace it in a couple months, I wouldn't worry about it. If you want, drain it and put in straight 90 wt gear lube.

I second Tom's idea 90wt or 80/90 if you cant get the 90
