Default 98 Ram stereo wiring

My brother bought a infinuity system from a 2001 Dakota. Wants to put it in his 98 Ram with AM/FM cassette in it now. Will all the wiring be in place for the infinity system or will we have to "rig" it? Thanks- Pat

If the 98 didn't have the Infinity system then the correct wiring will not be there. The radio will bolt in and the wiring is the same to the radio. I have a 98 Ram 1500 4x4 std cab/short bed with the Infinity system in it . There is a choke/relay mounted in the dash and the door speakers have amps built on to them to power the tweeters that are in the a pillars. The cab speakers are powered off of the radio I believe. Just use the radio you picked up and put in some good quility aftermarket speakers . The factory Infinty speakers are very expensive and would be difficult at best to wire up. Hope this helps.

Well, he got not only the radio, but the amp and the six speakers also. What is the choke relay thing? Can it be obtained at the dealer or replaced with something from the aftermarket? Thanks- Pat

On the Ram like mine the choke/relay is what turns the amps on. On mine the amps are on the front 6x9 speakers that go in the doors. These amps are what powers the tweeters in the a pillars. The radio powers the rear 5-1/4 " cab corner speakers if I remember correctly. The Dakota you got the stuff out of may be different. I'll see what I can find out.

The 01 Dakota uses a totally different radio/amp/speaker set up than the 98 Ram uses. I am not sure how you are going to hook it up. The radio opening will need to be modified in the 98 to accept the 01 radio too. You will be better off I think to get the system out of a 98 Ram.
