225 to 318
I have a 1974 Duster with a 225 slant six, I also have a 1974 Duster with a 318. How difficult would it be to take all the V8 parts off one and put them on the other. I have all the correct V* parts including K-member, tranny, driveshaft, and so on...
Thanks |

Put it this way, me and my father did it under my house using NO engine stand just a winch tied to the floor. We didnt even need to change the front end. Just unbolted both trans. Unbolted the blocks yanked the 6 and put it in the truck and flew it off a mountain. Next we pulled the 8 up and yanked that motor and put the /6 car under it and lined up the mount locations. then with a cutting torch we cut out the old mounts and arc welded um in place. Used the donor driveshaft and trans and it bolted up liek a dream. The whole process took about 3 days in our spare time. Only thing is you might have to crank the front torsion bars up about 1-1 1/2 inches if youre using headers, they come really low to the ground.

What trans... did you use for this change .. Im also planning to change my slant for a big motor, maybe a 340 or 360 , now that you have the 318, did you notice a great change in your car?,

318/360 swap
I swapped from a /6 to 318 3 years ago. Was not satisfied with the power increase so..now I have 360 in the old Dart.
Do yourself a favor and START with a 360. Same block and mounting as the 318 (except for the left engine mount). I am using a 904 out of my old 318. The /6 -904 will not bolt to a 318/360 block. |
