Base timing for 360/380 HP crate motor?
Hey guys, Can use your help again. I'm getting ready to fire up the new engine and was wondering if anyone knows the proper Base timing for the New 360 C.I./380 HP crate motor. Appreciate any responses and thanks in advance!

Set total timing around 36 degrees.

DWC43 thanks for the reply-a couple of guys have said to set the base timing between 8-12 and the advanced timing between 36-38 . Does that sound right to you?

Sounds right to me. I run 36 total on my race car which runs a 360 with many mods and over 400 hp. Works well for me. You may have to adjust it some but that's close.

dwc's first post is most accurate.(more than what you've heard from other guys) Set it from total timing(less vacuum)
The base timing should end up around 12 degrees if the total timing(less vacuum) is set to 34 to 36. Thats assuming the distributor is curved properly. |

Been running the 360/380 crate for three years, never looked at initial timing once. Just eyeball it to start, and then set total to 36.
