Question W2 rocker arm geometry

Can someone tell me if the following rocker arm configuration looks close to what it should. This is a valve closed photo.

Here is a pushrod view when the vlave is at max lift. I tried to keep the rocker's roller tip close to the center of the valve while also keeping the pushrod as inline as possible with the adjuster at max spring pressure.

Billy, It looks like you are real close.

The rocker tip should be just slightly on the intake side of valve centerline at rest. As the rocker goes through its lift cycle, the roller tip should go past valve centerline to the exhaust side, and at full lift the roller tip should be back at the same place on the valve tip as it was at rest.

And, at full lift, the rocker/push rod relationship should be about 90 degrees.

Sometimes, it help to mark the valve tip with machinist marking fluid(Prussian Blue). This helps to identify exactly where the roller tip is on the valve tip. If your geometry is really good, the total roller tip travel across the valve tip is about .070".

Sanborn has got it. The only thing I would add is to check the pushrod to rocker arm clearance at max lift. Some times the cup will hit the arm on the inside. I like to see at least about .060" clearance there.

The valve side of the rocker looks really good. I'm not sure if it is an illusion in the picture or not, but the pushrod looks a little long. When you are priming the engine, roll the motor over and make sure that oil hits the adjuster and runs into the cup. If it hits the side of the cup, the pushrod is too long.

good luck,
Scott

Scott, I will do as you said. I am sure it will oil fine however, as the oil hole is above the cup. If not, I guess I will have to shorten the pushrods a little. Having pushrods too long gives me a second chance to get them right!!

Skankweirdall, I machined extra clearance for the cups and springs on this set of rockers.

Sanborn, I used the red layout fluid. My blue dried up becaues I didn't keep the cap on it properly. I can be so wasteful at times.

Thanks guys

Billy

Billy, if a little amount of layout fluid is all I had ever wasted in my lifetime, I would be one happy old geezer!

Default sorry to raid the thread, but....

Pushrods to long? Does he need more threads on the adjuster to be showing?
Also, at max lift, the roller tip should be where? I thought it should be in the center of the valve tip and at rest, slightly toward the exhaust side.

(Maybe it;s to early for me ? )

Wink P. rod length??

Most aftermkt roller rockers have a limit that the adj screw can operate in. This is due to the oiling hole in the screw & body having to be lined up. If the screw is either too far out or too far into the body, the roller tip oiling passage is cut off.
IMO, I agree that the rod looks to be too long, thus the screw's out too far....
