The father-in-law has a 72 Motorhome with a 413 in it and I assume it is the one that came with it.

I'm sure the industrial 413 was available in the A-class chassis until 1974.. then the 400 and 440 took over..

It's very well known because it wasn't supposed to be a performance engine... just a workhorse motor...they were also in Generators, combines, forklifts...

Actually a guy down the road has a factory slant six combine and a old hemi in a late 50's forklift... all factory installations..but workhorses..

Yeah,
My '71 Winnie has a 413-1 and a 727. As was posted, they were the engine of choice in the Motor Homes till the mid 70's.

Roger that.....and IMO - the 413 was a better motor than the 440.......for that application.

My buddy asked if is was worth anything cause he knows the guy. I assume It's not worth much but I guess you could build it like any other big block huh? I mean can you make a Hi Perf motor out of it couldn't you?

Is this MH or motor for sale? ...... as far as a HP application - it would be tough to make it that way.

The compression ratio on that motor is less than 7 to one (actual) and the heads?.......those exh valves are 1.5 inches. NOT a performance combo in most people's eyes.

Like the man says, the 413 was made to be a workhorse. The 413 maxis were okay, but the bore is so small to be a big block, you just can't fit much of a valve in there without notching the block. I have run into that problem with my 383, and it's bore swallows a 413's. Surely it has a forged crank in it at least. I thought all 413s had forged cranks, but I also thought they stopped in '65 just like you.

You can build a 413 that could pull Jimmy Hoffa back but it wont run a 13 without $$$$. That engine is made for gas spark and torque
