Gripe 4 speed no reverse

I'm ready to get the matches out ....just had shifter rebuilt because of all the play it had and it would not go into gear....adjusting ....the 1/2..and 3/4 shift levers on the shifter have the slots to guide you but reverse doesn't....where does that lever belong.. even with the other two ..behind them or ahead I can't shift it into reverse

When looking at the bottom of the shifter, there is an alignment hole.. This hole is on both sides of the shifter and in each of the 3 levers. Line up all 3 levers and run a finishing nail through the housing and all 3 levers. That is N. Now make sure that all 3 levers on the tranny are in N. Now adjust the rod lengths to properly fit on each housing lever.

If it still refuses to go into revers, the problem is in the tranny or the Reverse lever (on the tranny) is upside down.

The factory Hurst shifters don't have the hole for an alignment pin in the reverse lever, it takes a special clamp type alignment tool.
In the absence of the special tool, I align the 1-2 and 3-4 levers with a 1/4" rod and just eyeball the sides of the shift levers to align them with the reverse lever and then make minor adjustments to the reverse rod by feel until the shifter smoothly engages reverse.
As Ed said, be sure the reverse lever on the trans functions smoothly, it could be the problem.

I got it...your right J K there is no hole on the reverse lever...what I did was I got 1/2 rod and 3/4 rods adj. to neutral using the slot...for rev. I moved the shifter to where it popped into the rev. gate and then adj. the rev. rod to where that lever stopped .. it works fine now ....man this car has fought me at every point..my first hot mopar since 1979
