Unhappy Swaped engine, now 2-3 shifts overlap. Please help.

I recently replaced my old 360 with 360 380HP crate engine. Tranny worked great on my previous setup so I reused it. Now however 2-3 shifts are overlapping. Where did I go wrong? I have connected all the links and cables the same way as before. Also I can't seem to downshift to first gear. Shifter only goes as far as second. If possible please describe in details what I should to fix both problems. I appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Alex

You have changed the length of the throttle valve linkage (kickdown) somehow, adjust it so that the tranny lever is all the way back when at full throttle. There are several styles so I can't be specific. Usually better to use wire or reverse the return spring to hold the carb at WOT and then do your adjusting. If you keep pulling the throttle lever back and forth you will flood it something fierce. You didn't specify what type of main linkage so no comment there. Don't forget to undo the carb from WOT or you will get a bad case of the big eyes when you start it.

Do I adjust on the carb side or tranny side?

depends on the style of kickdown you have. Some have the rod the carb with a threaded clevis on the end, and some have the adjuster on the transmission lever, which you loosen the bolt on and slide on the rod to adjust. The latter kind usually require cleaning up the rust and grime to make them work.
