Connecting Rods
I have a quick question on connecting rods for a small block. Will 340 connecting rods work on a 71 318? If so will the free floating pins work on stock 318 with pressed pins. If I remember correctly the 318 and 340 have the same stroke length? Thanks, this should be a quickie for you vets!!

A 318 piston designed for a press fit pin does not have pin locks and will not work with a bushed rod. All the LA small blocks use the same basic rod length and are interchangeable if used with the proper piston. Engine balance can become an issue when changing rods.

I think there are still pistons available to use these rods.
