Default 360 daily driver

I have a 87 roller block 318 in my car that 's slightly limited by it's camshaft, so I'm considering a upgrade to a 360.

How is the 360 as a daily driver for mostly highway driving. What kind of fuel economy can you expect with a mild cam?

Thanks again

Jeff

If your main concern is fuel milage, I'd rebuild the 318. The 360 will use a little more fuel. The differance in power isn't enough to worry about. The 318 will get you up the mountions and hills with no problems. What vehical?

Vehicle is a good question.

I noticed my van got much better fuel economy with the 360, than it did with the 318.

The improved power meant' you didn't need to push it so hard just to move the tub of a van.

like 12mpg up to almost 19.

Down to about 9 with the 400 though

Plus the 360 has a lot more torque than the 318 which helps mpg and even more so on heavy vehicles.

Exclamation

I have a 87 fth ave M-Body that tips the scales at around 3700 pounds with me in the front seat. The car is really solid with the cop suspension I put in (a relative in a Saab sport convertible tried to loose me on the twisties and couldn't what fun).

the engine is really weak for the car, it makes 240 ftlbs which isn't bad, but a 375ftlbs 360 would motivate it nicely.

As long as the mpg doesn't drop more then say 5 mpg below the 318 I'd be happy.

What does your van weigh, I think both of our vehicles have simmilar shed like aerodynamics.

Thanks again

Jeff

A-hem.....3 peat!

Do a search in here. I write up a thing I did on my 360 over and over. It's gotta be here someplace.
(Next time I save it!)
In short (Cause I can be long winded)

360 in a Dodge Magnum 904 auto, 2.76 8 1/4 rear.
20 Mpg's without headers or cam. Basic bolt ons? Not even.
Msd, carter 625, OE 4bbl intake, exh. manifolds w/duals and "H" pipe. Factory HP aircleaner.

Headers could have added 2-3 mpg's. The right cam could have given better power and a mile or 2 at best.
