Do NOT cut the intake. If you do then that intake will only fit those heads. And you have to worry about the rails also. Cut the head surface where the intake bolts to. For every .01 thousands off the deck, take .012 off the other surface.

.07 off the deck, then take .084 off the intake surface of the HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Each head.

You may have to cut the intake with that much off the heads, unless you plan on gluing the valve covers on as you may be into the upper valve cover bolt holes

That wouldn't be good. I'd have to look at the van's engine and see where that would come out at.
What engine is this anyway?

this is a 383. reason for cutting intake is. intake is cheaper
than heads if something doesn't fit right. can always
cut heads later if for some reason would want to change.

So everytime you want to try another intake you'll have to get it cut. And if you don't like that new intake then it would be worthless to anyone else and you can't sell it.

This is an interesting debate.

I cut the intake for my motor, because of the amounts needed.

I needed .090" off of the intake or head. After looking at the thickness of the vc gasket surface, I opted for the intake.

I also used the logic that intakes are cheaper than heads, and my heads hadn't been cut at all. Just the block. Therefore my heads can be used on any b/rb while my intake ( a far from rare 69 383 dual plane) is married to my block.

I'm not sure which way I'd gone, if I'd cut the heads(instead of the block).

Just to add another idea. I cut the heads on a .030" 340 I have. To solve the port misalignment issue, I bought some very thin gasket material and made my own intake gaskets, I used gasket sealant on all the ports and water. The engine was used in my drag car for three years (12:90's at 105), then in my circle track car for two years, and now resides in my street car. Never had any sealing issues.
Having said all that, 090" would be too much for this method to work.

You would cut .0861 from each head on the intake to make a match on any stock intake, but you are going to have a very thin valave cover gasket sealing area on the top

I'd just oval the intake bolt holes and port match the intake port exits to the intake ports of the heads. I like to at least gasket match the manifold to the head no matter what I am installing it to, so that way it would save time with one less operation of milling another surface.

So when the intake ports are an 1/8 lower than the runners in the intake, what do you do fill it up with expoxy? Have you ever tried this, cuz I have had cars come to me that have had the heads milled .060 and the stock intake somehow bolted on with slotted holes and they leak like a sieve. Best to get it machined for a proper fit.

Sure, milling everything the correct way is always best.

Cheap way....use A/B epoxy to fill it up and grind it smooth. Wow....there's A/B expoxy in the Edelbrock catalog....wonder whats its for! Think the biggest use for it is just for Edelbrock R&D...I don't know many people who use it. The metal better be totally clean rough for the expoxy to stick and stay there too.
