I wanna know...
How can I tell what type of heads I have on my 318, without having to remove them?
It's an '87 D250, 2bbl 318. Thanks! |

Remove the valve cover and check the casting number stamped on them. Also post the number here for the GURUs perusal.

George,
I pulled the valve cover and the only number I found was "3302". I did an internet search but came up blank. |

Sounds like 302 castings to me.
They are good ones. Seems early for those though. I'm not really a small block guy, so I don't know for sure(as to what year 302 casting heads came out) |

I checked and double checked for numbers and the only cast-in number was the 3302. I flipped through a Chilton's manual and it says jack about 'em.
From what I've gathered '87 was an awkward year for the 318. It had 3 or 4 different cam types, lifter types, head types and used two different carbs. I must be nuts for wanting to build it up proper... but then again, I'm certified crazy! |

302 swirl ports to help ignite the cats, very thin and virtually un-portable....good for your stock application.
