Default I wanna know...

How can I tell what type of heads I have on my 318, without having to remove them?
It's an '87 D250, 2bbl 318.

Thanks!

Remove the valve cover and check the casting number stamped on them. Also post the number here for the GURUs perusal.

George,
I pulled the valve cover and the only number I found was "3302". I did an internet search but came up blank.

Sounds like 302 castings to me.

They are good ones.

Seems early for those though. I'm not really a small block guy, so I don't know for sure(as to what year 302 casting heads came out)

I checked and double checked for numbers and the only cast-in number was the 3302. I flipped through a Chilton's manual and it says jack about 'em.
From what I've gathered '87 was an awkward year for the 318. It had 3 or 4 different cam types, lifter types, head types and used two different carbs. I must be nuts for wanting to build it up proper... but then again, I'm certified crazy!

302 swirl ports to help ignite the cats, very thin and virtually un-portable....good for your stock application.
