Default Felt washer on harmonic balancer hub, does anyone use them?

I just got my stock harmonic balancer degreed from 0°-50° BTDC in increments of 2° and at each 90° increments. Bead blasted and repainted. I'm ready to install and have one of the felt washers in a gasket kit laying around. Never used one before, does anyone use it. I've got a '70 340. This felt washer would rest against the face of the crank seal.

Thanks,
dr

I've used them, my guess they are there to keep dirt and crud out of the dust shield/seal area. If you have one, I would install it. Nothing to lose.
