Unless you have quech pistons, I would go for the 84cc EB heads. Don't forget, you can swap those heads over to your other engine, when it is ready.
Why are you running a vacuume secondary carb on a 4 speed?? You should be running a double pumper with a 4-speed. A pinion sumbber and sub-frame connectors would do a lot for your 60 foot times. Getting rid of the front sway bars will help the weight transfer, however, if it is a daily driver it would be better to leave it in. You also really need to work on your reaction times. What RPMs are you launching at and shifting at? What are you running for an exhaust system (headers? what size, what size pipes? Mandrel bends? Cross-over?, what size and type mufflers?) |

I don.t mean to burst your bubble my friend, but in order to get that bad boy in the high 11s its going to take more than heads and cam.The times you are turning now equate to about 300 rear wheel hp, in order to get high 11s you need about 475 hp at the rear wheels.Do the things you talked and put that beast on a diet and you're headed in the right direction. Re: car

Are the pipes using mandrel bends or standard crimp bends? An H or X pipe will help out. It balances the exhaust pressure and helps in the scavanging effect. What size headers (primary tube - collector) are you running? Quote:
The proper carb for the application will always help. It helps even more, if it is properly tuned for the application as well. I used a 750 vac secondary on a '70 383 that still had the 2-bbl cam in it. The 750 was still a little small for that engine. You could probbly get away with a Holley 850 double pumper. That or a Mighty Demon 750. |

You're trying to run in the 11's with a 4000 lb 4-speed street car? Maybe if you put REAL tires on it, rev it to about 6 grand and drop the hammer you might get high 12's out of it if you don't blow the friggin' rear. You'd be better off with an automatic and a good cam and torque converter.

So want to go fast and stay with all Iron.......Attaboy!
Here's a starter list: Good 727 with a Dynamic convertor ST21 Racer Brown cam Comp Nodular Iron adjustable rocker arms Titanium retainers 11/32 valves Bowl hog and blend Light port and gasket match 825 Mighty Demon MECHANICAL Single plane manifold 4 angle valve job Light pistons 4.30 or 4.56 gear BIG tires....no Bigger! Fiberglass bumpers Fiberglass hood Fiberglass trunk Leaf floaters or coil overs and ladder bars Front 90/10 shocks Frame connectors Roll bar Compression to 10.5 or more Let them think how over rated the 440's are..then kick their Bowtie butts. It just takes time and money Every 100#s is worth a tenth, every $100 is worth about a 1/100. Sawzall blades are cheap ET reducers. Better check the rule book, you run 11.99 or quicker and price of going fast just went up.... |

Keep it a 4 gear!!
OK, keep the 4 speed,'
You speed shift it? I saw an article in car craft where they took a 4 speed and took the synchros off the gears. Made it shift much faster but was a little hard on the street. I think they were called "proshifted" Theres a guy in woodburn running iron heads with a 590 lift MP solid and an auto in a '73 Charger. Sucker runs low elevens... I would say for the exhaust, run atleast a 1 7/8 header and a 3 inch exhaust with an H pipe would help. 825 or 850 double pumper carb. Let that 440 breathe! Single plane intake and have some big valves put in the heads with some good porting. Might want to consider 2.18s/1.88s. When you build your other short block, build it with light pistons and rods, maybe the longer Manley rods for better rod ratio and faster revs. You will definitely beat him then! |

my suggestion cheap stroker motor
ok so you want to fry this guy and do it on the cheap
take your 440 add a catpep 4.125 crank shaft in a 440 block(375$)you can even use stock 400 slugs on a "RB" rod other then that I would just do a "regular" performance build probably reuse alot of your old stuff off course theres always the hidden NOS system other then that I would improve your chassis withsub frame connectors and try to move as much weight over the rear as is practical or flat remove it ... have fun and wave to your friend as you smoke 'em MOPAR 2YA Valiantone :chainsaw: |
