Default T-56 Transmission to 331 Hemi?

What vehicles used the T-56 gearbox? What do I need to hook up to the clutch/bellhousing on a 331 Chrysler Hemi (NOT the old extended block)

Sounds like a question for the Performance Talk forum, instead of the Ram Truck forum.

I agree! This should be interesting, there are a lot of various adapters and plans for putting modern trannys on early Hemis.
I would be interested myself to find out what is involved, but I figure Peformance Talk would be more likely to get an answer than the Vintage section. We'll see!

It can be done, the question is just which way is the easiest. For instance, my company makes early Hemi to 727 adapters. One of those adapters could be used to hang a late model SB bellhousing onto the back of your Hemi and then you could go from there. Or, you could take a Hemi bellhousing and modify the rear of it for the T-56.

It would be easier to use a TKO 5 speed from Keisler. The Keisler setup goes right onto a SB bellhousing and then you can use the Hemi to 727 adapter to mate the Hemi and the SB housing. That would be a clean bolt together setup. Last I heard, Keisler was going to start buying my adapter so he could offer a turn key Hemi kit. Maybe call him and see where he is at on it.

It sure would be great if Shafi could get SFI ratings on his bellhousings...

At least he finally got the new website up and running. Now I'll have to browse his pricing and drool some.

You all see the 58 Saratoga I have for my avatar. It has a 354 Polysphere. I do have a set of early Hemi heads that I think would work, but I am kind of unwilling to tear the Saratoga apart when I have so many other projects. Having a replacement for the cast iron Torqueflite would be a definate bonus. I don't have a small block 727 at present, or a TKO 5 speed, but I find the topic interesting and maybe the modernization of "Sarah's" 45 year old drivetrain may yet happen one day! If I "hemify" the Polysphere, restoration won't be a big consideration anyway.
And to get back to tim56's original question, just what vehicles did have a T-56 gearbox?

If I recall, the T-56 is the 6-speed that is in the newer Corvettes and Vipers.
