Default 71 74 B-body 8 3/4 perch question

I have a 71 satellite and have access to a 74 charger 8 3/4 rear. For the swap, do I have to weld in new perches to fit it in my 71. It has a huge mounting hole as apposed to mt current 5/16" or so ?

I have allready read that thread, but that does not show the diffrence between the perches. On the ( I believe ) 73 and up the rear end is still the same length in all aspects, How ever a 71 has a very small hole for the laef spring dowell to fit in on the perch and a 73 and up has a hole about 2" wide .... I dont have a camera to post a pic or I would.

All dimensions are the exact same. The only difference would be the hole in the middle of the perch. You should be able to get a cheap bushing (or a large nut), from the hardware store, to rectify that problem.

Let me be more specific, does the bushing have to fit snug and exact ? Can I have a little slop in it ? Not that I want any slop but if I get it close will it be good enough after it gets clamped to the springs.

The tighter fit the better. The U-bolts should hold it in place just fine. I made some bushings out of stainless that were a slight interference fit. Works fine.
