Default posi rear set up

anyone know the proper procedure for locking down the backlash ajuster collars on the carrier bearings? once you have the correct backlash is there a torque for the collars to properly load the carrier bearings Of course this happened just in time for the nationals and hope to have up and running tomorrow for the trip 96 pace truck thanks in advance for any info

I've used 60 ftlbs on the last two diffs I assembled. I don't know if it's correct or not.

It will work for you, if no one else can get you the right spec.

You mean the main caps, right?

ps: On a Mopar, limited slip type axles are called "sure grip"

thanks for the reply dave but these are the adjusting collars that fit into the caps ,not sure just how much load to give them before tightening cap bolts down

Sorry.

I don't remember the spec for that. I'll take a look in a service manual, in the am. Hopefully you've already gotten the info you need by then.

Obviously the spec would involve turning both collars towards each other. If I had to guess, it wouldn't be much. 1 to 2 positions inward. (that's a guess)

When I put in my mini spool the technician told me to get your backlash and then tighten (preload) only enough to get the fingered holddowns into the next closest hole. I believe the main cap spec is like 95 lbft.

The procedure does not have a spec. It only says to adjust backlash to desired spec using adjuster's, and that that will set brg preload.

I guess, "snug" will have to do.

80-90 flt lbs on the cap bolts.

Sorry to not be more specific, but that's what the book says.
