Default New headers/exhaust suggestions

I am putting a new exhaust system on my '65 Cuda with a 360 crate/904 trans. I have pretty much decided to buy Doug's Headers (as I believe that that is the only under-chassis header available and no stock exhaust manifold fits) but would appreciate recommendations for exhaust shops in the Orange County, CA area and suggestions on routing/h-pipe/muffler choices.

I am happy with the current system layout: it exits just in front of the rear tires and has a h-tube right behind the trans pan. It is one welded assembly that has one hanger very near the ends and hangs off the headers. Any comments on a better layout or whatever?

Take a look at TTI headers also. They are under chassis and fit real well.

I would love to consider TTI, but they (like everyone else on the planet except Dougs) do not make headers to fit the 64-66 A-body cars. One reason I am posting here is in the hope someone can tell me of another option. By the way, the headers I am replacing are custom headers by Mark Weiss. They are about 7 years old, I had them jet-hot coated when new, and would still be fine except when driving over a pavement patch the exhaust hit and the headers cracked badly.

Anyway, I want to try different headers. Another big reason for posting here is to get exhaust shop recommendations.

Maybe just add a hanger on each side near the header flange, so the header doesn't support the pipe.

Especially since you are stepping up in $ for good pieces...cheap insurance.

Have you considered an X-pipe v.s. H-pipe?

I do not know that an X-pipe is better than an H-pipe. Do you think it is better? While I can see the theoretical advantage of reduced flow restriction, this car doesn't have all that much room, what with a deep auto-trans pan and the frame crossmember. Is the difference all that great?
