Thumbs up 5th Ave 1/4 mile times

Well everyone, I finally put the beast on the drag strip at none-other than National trails raceway at the Mopar Nationals!
My best time was a 13.83@101mph! Is that good for a 4000lb car and street tires?
60' 2.21
1/8...8.98 @ 81 mph
we wont talk about my reaction times
I think with a suregrip and slicks, it would run low 13's. I do need some ignition help. Don!, I will be sending my distributor and stuff your way after the last car show in sept.

Yep, I'd say that's pretty good! Get some traction and she'll be rockin. Then you will want to run in the 12's, so you will need to build a stroker...

I guess you got your carbs sorted out eh?

Most Excellent!

I'll be waiting for that ignition system..send everything ...wires plugs cap rotor box the whole shabang.

Now let's talk about your RT's...LOL

BTW...Hot Rod Nationals...Average reation time was 517 over 2 two days...worst 531 best 504.

Based on 1000' times slowest was a 10.02 quickest was a 9.94 over 2 days and 40 degree temp change

No Computer
No throttle stop
No Freaking powerglide
Shifting with my right arm
On the foot brake!

Attention in the pits...does anyone have a spare Powerglide?

LMAO

Default Some help please??

Hey, ive got exactly the same idea that you've got. Looking into getting a 5th ave, and well the 1st thing i thought was getting rid of the stupid 2 barrel and going with a 4. Damn thing is so limited the way it comes. Just wondering if i can get some info on where to find parts, i had a hard time online. Also any other info i may need. Thanks.

Hey By the way, if you get a new manifold/carb, is it going to have to stick out of the hood like that? I wanted to really make it a sleeper. Sorry couldnt keep everything in 1 post.

Biggrin i went to an extreme

my carbs stick out of the hood because i am running a tunnel ram. kinda defeats the purpose of the name 5th ave "sleeper" but like I said, i went to the extream.
But heres what I got:
-86 5th ave, loaded
-74 360 .060" over
-stock steel crank, balanced
-stock rods, polished beams, arp bolts
-Keith Black hypertectic pistons, comp ratio somwhere between 10.5-11 : 1
-windage tray
-Clevite bearings all through
-"J" heads, shaved .050", massivley ported and polished, 2.02" int/ 1.60" exh, 3angle valve job
-Edelbrock TR-5 tunnel ram intake, ported or "gasket matched" to heads
-two Holley 600cfm vac secondaries
-Comp Cams .495 lift 268 dur (I think) solid lift cam
-Comp Cams 1.6:1 adjustable rocker arms, makes .528" lift @ valve.
-78 727 trans
-B&M flexplate
-MPP 2700 stall torque conv
-8 1/4" rear end with 3.55:1 gears
-Hedman Hedders pn 78050 (perfect fit!)
-solid core plug wires
-Mopar "orange" ecu
-stock dist with "light" springs.

Get all that stuff and drop it down in that M body and turn some heads!!!

5th ave, i just wanted to let you know that i put nitto drag radials on my car and have been extremely pleased with them. i drive all over the place and they hook real good. one bad thing is after i got my car hookin real good i developed a bad bog and that made me pull my hair for awhile. with your twin towers sticking through the hood the same thing could happen.

yea, it's running beautifully! took it out on the street for the first time today, ran smoooth! oil pressure at idle, cold (when i first fired it up) was about 83psi. after driving around, and idle around 800-1000, oil pressure was 70psi. i love driving around town without the hood, soo many people stopping and staring

Biggrin your questions answered

Dartcustom;
It idles pretty good. Its lumpy, but it does'nt sound like its trying to die. And the power brakes work about once per stop sign/ light. I need to get a vac resivior.

Donsa;
The converter is I think a 175K? maybee. Its the 2700rpm stall. I really need a higher stall in it if I am going to race it more. But I like to drive it on the streets of East Tennessee

Red face Ah, the screw incident

one of the screws fell out of the baseplate of the front holley and went into cyl #3. It beat the crap out of the top of the piston and gouged the exhaust valve. The cyl walls looked ok. I used a borescope for the inspection.
So yeah, I ran those times on 7 1/2 cyl

Default Hey 5th...........

Mentioned to you at the show in Cove lake that I was hunting another MoPar to get into.
The wife said the Mirada that was for sale there was down right ugly so those are off the list.
I ran into a MoPar buddy I have not seen in a while and he mentioned that he had a '71 Charger original 383 car for sale.
I checked it out and it is a pretty solid old car. Needs very little to get it back in action. AND, it has AC!
Only bummer is right now cash flow is nil because I just got married and that emptied my savings.
He said he wasn't in a hurry to sell it and he really hasn't told anyone else about it. Will keep you posted.
