I recommend a standard starter for a newer minivan or dakota. They are the same bolt pattern. You only need to remove the plastic electric stud adaptor piece. It is a high torque unit that is much smaller than the stock ones and it has it's own heat shield. Mine was around 100 bucks with out a core.

i called mancini racing and ordered their starter, i think its the same one 71838bee has i think it was about 114 bucks, and i cant say enough about it. I have headers and my stock starter would not even work if the car was hot. this one is the SH*T! i love it! Ive never heard my engine turn over so fast ,and reliable..every time, i never worry that my car will start anymore. I didnt have to do any modifications to mount it either. went right in like a glove.

Like 71383bee stated, I would get a starter motor from a newer MOPAR. The ones on the 5.2l & 5.9l engines fit the same way that he mentioned.

You could probably go to the auto parts store and get a rebuilt one using your exisiting starter as a core exchange.

CHARGER RT, why don't you hit the area junk yards and get one 4 a 3.9 v-6.

they work just fine.

I put a cheap Powermaster on my 440. It works good but the main power terminal on the starter is very close to the block. My set up has headers so I don't know about the clearance but the slarter is alot smaller than stock and I think I got it for about $150.

Why spend $150 on a Powermaster, when you can get a current MOPAR starter (from most current MOPARs) for less money??

Ditto. Get a scrap 5th avenue for free. Take the mini starter and 15x7's. Take it to the boneyard and still get 80 bucks. life is good! Oh, don't forget to check if it has an Infinity stereo!

I run a bone stock regualar sized V8 starter in mine.
Its 15.38:1 compression and I have no problems even with the timing at 34 degrees. Thats the good thing about mopars they already have the gear reduction that the others pay big bucks for!

Don't get one from a 3.3 V6, they won't bolt up to a V8.

I thought the thread was a recommendation for a 440 mini starter, not what you can score at the bone yard and what starters will fit on what.

The newer stock starters ARE mini starters and are also HIGH TORQUE starters which will bolt directly to any 273, 318, 340, 360, 383, 400, 413, 426, or 440. So i believe we are talking about the right thing here. So a ideally a starter from a newer derelic dakota, ram, or van from a boneyard WILL work just fine and it WOULD be a great find. I can't fault someone for being resourceful. Why spend more money for an aftermarket ministarter when the newer stock mopar starters are the same thing at a cheaper price?

If you have an Advance Auto handy, buy a Part Number 17010. I think its for a 94 - 318 Jeep. You don't have to remove the plastic piece from the terminals. It misses the block by about an 1/8". Don't know why it is different than those that require you to remove the plastic, but it is. I run these on all my big block stuff.

Cost about $80 bucks. Don't take your big standard starter in when you buy this piece. Pay the core charge and wait about a week before you take your old starter in for your refund. Seems that they want to charge you a core charge because the one you turn in doesn't look anything like the one you are buying. Go figure.

Confused

That is the one application I haven't tried.

I have one on a 62 - 413 Max Wedge - Automatic, 69 - Formula S - 4 speed - 340, 74 - Dart Sport - 360 - Automatic, 70 - 383 'cuda - Automatic.

I wouls suspect that it will work but don't have first hand knowledge.

Sorry.
