Default Extra space under the hood

I have some clearance under the hood and was considering 2 things that I could do with the space.

1) Since I'm only running a 2" (tall) air cleaner element should I go to a taller one?... or

2) Put a 4 hole spacer under the carb. and leave the filter as it is.

The intake is a dual plane...

What do you want to do? Just fill up the space?

Well, if one of these options does me some good then I want to USE that space.

Otherwise, I'll leave it be.

You most likley can get a K&N of some other brand high flow element to fit you present air cleaner box and use a spacer too, but as far as the spacer are you trying to increase top end or low in power?

I'm not sure I can get both with my available space.

I'm not sure if the added air volume would do me any good at all.

And, the 4-hole is usually a torque benefit. I'll take anything it would add, top or bottom.

I'm basically asking this to see if this is a no brainer or maybe there is a trade off to doing one over other.

Like I said see if ther is a filter that will fit your air box it may not help but any time you reduce air flow restriction you have not created a problem

LOL, I'm with 23T. The size filter you have now shouldn't be a problem, but I like to run at least a 3 inch element. More space the merrier.

i noticed a small difference going from a 3 inch to a 4 inch air cleaner, but i also don't use a k&n extreme top, which i use on my 440 with a 2 inch.

Default oh yea!

i forgot...one thing you COULD do is use a 'drop' base... my air cleaner base drops the top of the filter about 2". you wanna be careful cuz if you go too much the base will get into the fuel inlets of the carb (depending on kind) or the throttle linkage... so you COULD do both...tall spacer and a dropped base for the air cleaner....

I'm already using a drop base. I got it when i installed the Air-Gap intake because I didn't know what kind of clearance I would have.
The hood was off the car and stored at the time, so I couldn't really do the "smashed down clay" type of clearance measurement.

So, now that I have some room, I'm just trying to see what everyone thinks: $20 spacer... or a $30+ K&N type of 3" element.

Or, neither? LOL!

$20 spacer?? ouch. well, i doubt getting a taller element would really improve noticable performance, i'd probably go with the spacer first. THEN...get the K&N if you've the cash and space.

my .02... good luck!

BTW: my intake is an edelbrok torkerII (single plane hi-rise). my entire Induction stands 14" tall!! (measured with intake sittin on table, and put the air cleaner/carb on and tightened).
