Default Why we own Mopars...

We own Mopars because we enjoy working on them and have a great sense of satisfaction when someone looks over at you and your Mopar and give you the nod or a thumbs up. Oh, and we can mostly afford to keep them on the road too. Case in point: I work out of a facility that houses a very rich persons car collection. We recently took down the Ferrari collection for their yearly insurance appraisal. We found out that the F40 had both fuel pumps frozen due to no fuel in the cells. Ferrari dealer said the pumps probably "dried out" and seized. Any clue on what a fuel pump for an F40 costs? How about 2700 bucks, and there are two! Also 25 hours labor to replace them at $90 an hour. I shook my head and told the Curator if Mr. Big can afford the car, he can afford the maintenance. He also said that if we want to get the car back on the road, we should replace the serpentine cog belt because they dry out and crack after periods of non use. I later find out the motor has to be pulled to replace this belt, and you have to saw through a few carbon fiber structural pieces to get the fuel cells out, which have to be clamped and pinned back in place with a special jig that has to be sent away for. The curator was happy the Testarossa and the 288 GTO both started right up. The Countach comes down next month.....

Ferrari recommends timing belt changes every 15,000 miles I believe.. something to the tune of $8,000 to accomplish. (or so I heard.... trust me, I have absolutely no first hand knolwedge of this for sure!)

mine's $50, and I can do for free in the driveway.

Default Damn!

I may be totally wrong, but it seems cheaper to start all the cars once a month or so!

Warm them up real well, rev to about 75% of their safe range a bit, let them idle a bit, put away.

I may be wrong here but I heard that the new Vipers have 16 O2 sensors and they need to be replaced every 15,000 miles to the tune of $300 a piece.....

...and I whine about the 8 quarts of oil and a filter every two weeks....

Search my old thread, "It's a lifestyle.."

Good rant on what it's all about. Ferrari's aren't mentioned.

Don,
I pulled my 70 Challenger into a gas station and while I was filling up, two youngsters came over and said "Nice Mustang"!

70 Barracuda was here on Saturday helping me out with a massive yard project...his Cuda was parked in the neighbors driveway...

Beamer drives by...hits brakes....backs up...

"Hey, who owns the Cuda?"

"Which one? (there's 3 in the driveway)

"The grey one"

Tim..."Me"

Beamer..."Is it for sale?"

Tim "Sure"

Beamer " How much?"

Tim..."50K"

Beamer.."OK Thanks, sure is a pretty car"

Drives away.....we both thought .....we should have told her we would give $500 trade in allowance on the Beamer....dam....missed a good opportunity to have a Beamer for the Import Drags.

At least she knew what it was.

My brother believes there are no other cars worthy of ownership. He has built his 66 Coronet all by himself... That includes replacing floorpans, Q-panels, paint inside hood latch, rear window defrost, rebuilding his engine, tranny rearend. I mean everything...

To some that doesn't sound like much BUT he is not a bodyman or machanic. Just someone that likes Mopars. He knows his car better than anyone could.

I, on the other hand, own 5 Mopars, work on them myself (With the help of Larry) Because they are performance cars... BUT I also own 2 Fords (one of which will give any of the Mopars a run for the money... and it only has a 302 in it.) One is a 64 Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe, the other is a 59 F-100 shortbox. I own those because they are performance cars.

Now... before you guys start flaming me... I would not own a Mustang or Camaro or Firebird, Chevell or about 20 other cars for probly the same reason you wouldn't. I have not ever been a cookie cutter kind of guy.

I own my Fairlane because you never see them. Just like a friend picked out a 64 Belvadere not because it was pretty or sexy or was faster or quicker... you can make any car fast and furious... it's the statment you want to make. Just like the comercial "Yeah, It's got a HEMI" (And my plates for my 74 Challenger are going to say "YEAH") We say Damn right it's a Mopar and proud of it. I say It's my car, it runs, and it sure is fun... I love them all......

Kids are funny.

When I had my 69 dart custom, I washed it rather religously. I was about 23 at the time. I was drying it off with a chamois, when a kid on a bike, about 15, asked me about it

"Nice car."
"thanks"
"Are you the original owner?"
I paused"...I don't know how old I look to you buddy, but I wasn't alive when this car was new" I said shaking my head.

He rode away on his bike.

When I first got into cars I was all about Chevys, bcuz of my friends. Now I know better. We own Mopars bcuz when know who makes the best motors and we know what the fastest cars are. I guess we just like to go fast.

a chevy guy tried telling me GM designed the hemi...

"why do you like your mopar"
"cuz it's something different from the slowmaro's and rustangs"
"you know chevy motors are a lot cheaper right"
"sure, but mopar motors stay together better... besides, mother MOPAR built the hemi..."
"no, the hemi is a chevy motor, thats why you see it on dragsters!"
"so how come dodge trucks are coming out with hemi's and chevy trucks aint? how come every STOCK hemi car is a MOPAR?"

he shrugged...OY! i love my MOPAR and would not replacle it with anything! my roadrunner IS my first car , and i'm 17.... be 18 on january 28... i love when guys in their early 30's late 20's ask me
"where's your dad?"
"work"
"what are you doing?"
"putting my motor together..." (before it was runnin)
"you know what your doin??"
"umm, no, i'm jus....DUDE! if i didn't know what i was doin, i wouldn't be in the garage!"

then i'd go on about the car etc while the fella looked surpised all kinds... then, the question i really despise...
"how much will you sell it for?"

my pride and joy? SELL?! go get yer own baby! no way will i sell it...it's got a big back seat, the house can go first...
