Pyro Temps
my son has a 95-96 12 valve motor, with the boost pumped up to 38#s. Pulling a 5800 lb. trailer up a pretty stiff grade his pyro temp is running about 700-850 degrees. What is a safe temp to run. Thanks Jay.

I bet you are reading the EGT after the turbo. If so you should be ok as most guys say you loose 300 degrees thru thr turbo under power conditions.
The experts say 1250 and above is not good for continous use- pre-turbo. Some will push 1500-1600 for up to 20 seconds but it is dangerous. Again these are pre-turbo numbers so reduce them by 300 if you are running post-turbo Pyro's. |

I did not even think to ask if it was pre or after. Is one perferred over the other, or is the old six of one half dozen of an other?

The pyro's purpose is to read the temp as it effects the aluminum pistons. Do it right and get close by putting it in the manifold before the turbo.
