man i hate this, i always wanted a tach for my dart, my wife got me the one i wanted for christmas from autozone, it is a 3 3/8sunpro super tach3, i read the directions very good and they had a quick check listed to make sure it works using alligator clips to temporarily hook it up to make sure it works, so i did exactly like it says, hooked the GREEN wire to the negative side of the coil, hooked the black wire to a good ground and the red wire to the positive side of the battery, started the car and nothing, didnt work, so i went around and made sure all the alligator clips had a good connection, then tried again, nothing, so i shut the car off and took the clips off and actually installed the wires, loosened the negative coil wire, slid the green wire in and tightened it down, same with the black ground and red wire to battery, i fired up the car and as SOON as it started the tach started smoking black smoke!!, I shut it the car right back off as quick as it started, tach kept smoking for a few minutes, man, this makes me mad, i hooked the thing up just like the dang directions said and it goes up in smoke, anyone know what in the world is going on here? BTW, the ground wire from the battery goes to the head and thats where i grounded it to so it would be a good ground,, HELP!!

 SMOKE

Smoke is genrealy a good sign of a short.
It sounds to me as if you obtained a peice of not so fine
craftmanship from auto zone.
A factory defective tach.
