Help A body leafsprings, 8 1/4-8 3/4

Quick question.... Are the leafsprings the same for a 8 1/4 and a 8 3/4 rear in a 69 A body? Thanks.

All leaf springs are the same width. 2 1/2 inchs.

If you don't mind the fact that the nose of the 8¾ is 2/3" longer than the nose of the 8¼. If you are already running close on length, that 2/3" will slam the slip yoke onto the output shaft the first time you hit a bum

You may need to change the u bolts at the same time.

I know I did, on my dart, but that was going 7 1/4 to 8 3/4.

Yours willl probably work. Just measure, before the parts stores close for the weekend.

The 8¼ and the 8¾ both use the same OD axle tube, so the U-bolts won't be a problem (at least not in that fashion).

If you intend on reusing your exisiting U-bolts, you should start spraying them at least twice a day with WD-40 or liquid wrench, for about 3 or 4 days prior to the work. Then get a wire wheel drill bit and go over the thread really well. This should remove the majority of the corrosion and rough surfaces, so the nuts come off easie

Unless you have an impact gun or want a good forearm workout, i would just get new u-bolts. Cut them off with a angle grinder at the top of the housing and drop the new ones in place.

If you're going to be in the SF Bay, i have all the parts sans axle shafts. 489 open 3.23 chunk, 2 b-body housings (if you want to shorten), and 11" drums and brake assemblies.

Also, you may need a u-joint adapter to link your current driveshaft to the 8 3/4 yoke. 7260 driveshaft to 7290 yoke, runs about $25.

Instead of dealing with an adapter, have the DS shop put the correct yoke on the end of the DS, when you have it shortend.
