Does anyone know what motor the white challenger from the 70's movie vanishing point had in it. We watched it for the second time last night and me and my two buddies could not decide what motor big block or small block maybe a hemi? We could see it had an emblem on the hood but we could not read it and they never raised the hood. How about the chick on the motorcycle she looked all of 20 she should be 45 by now I wonder if she is still that hot?

I think the emblem said HEMI, but if I remember right, the car actually had a 383. A HEMI was used in the FOX remake of the movie. Anyone know where I can get a copy of the FOX movie?

The car is on display at the muscle car museaum in tenessee. It was built to replicate a 426 hemi. they havent even washed the dirt off of it since its film date. Yhe car actually has a 318 in it with a hemi shaker set-up on it. It has the rally pac dash in it with a 340/426 pistol grip set-up. It was a good replica of a hemi built around a 318 powertrain

I read once that there were three cars used in the production of the movie, at least three that you could see. There was a fourth audio dub car also used.
The 318 car described was the car you saw when they filmed Barry "Kowolski" driving. I believe it had an automatic. The article then went on to detail the two stunt cars. They had big blocks in them, one a 383 and the other a 440. The fourth car was a Hemi car that they dubbed all the sound in with foley artists. I forget where the car came from, but they got some guy to donate/rent his car for the sounds in the movie. The article came out some 10 years ago and I bet my friend in the Hills still has it. The info I am quoting is from memory so don't hang me if you disagree. |

There is a website about the movie at:
http://www.mnsinc.com/kowalski/vpoint.html#index Specific info on the cars used is at: http://www.monumental.com/kowalski/vparticl.html The website says that five cars were used according to Carey Loftin who was the movie's stunt coordinator. One was a 383 auto and the other four were 440 speeds. |
